Introduction
The Power Practice series™ contains dozens of ready-to-use activity pages to provide students with
skill practice. Use the fun activities to supplement and enhance what you are already teaching in
your classroom. Give an activity page to students as independent class work, or send the pages home
as homework to reinforce skills taught in class. An answer key is provided at the back of the book for
quick reference.
The creative activity pages in Vocabulary in Context • 5-8 introduces more than 1,200 vocabulary
words. These activities are ideal way for helping prepare students for standardized tests and for
increasing their vocabulary. Encourage students to use a dictionary as they complete the activites.
The book is divided into seven main sections:
• Synonyms, Antonyms, and Homophones
matching activities and using words in context
• Parts of Speech
classifying words and matching nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs to their definitions
• What Would You Do with . . .?
choosing the best answer for twelve vocabulary words per page
• Context Clues
selecting the best definition for an underlined word used in a short phrase
• Curriculum Vocabulary
matching and classifying vocabulary correlated to science, social studies, and math
• Prefix Puzzlers
matching vocabulary words beginning with prefixes such as dis-, ex-, inter-,
mis-, pre-, sub-, and un- to definitions
• Just for Fun
identifying words correlated to food,
sports, phobias, occupations, and more
Use these ready-to-go activities to “recharge” skill
review and give students the power to succeed!
