Jude Munro, Jude Munro & Associates Jude set up Jude Munro and Associates in 2010 and Iridium Recruitment in 2014. She is passionate about cities and regions, that they achieve their full potential and are operationally efficient. Jude is also committed to supporting the public sector and local democracy in action. She has supported the Lockyer Valley, Darwin, ACT Government, Southern Tasmanian Councils, Whittlesea, Playford, SEQ Regional Councils, Logan, Geelong, Mackay and the Sunshine Coast Councils as well as Wellington and Hamilton Councils in New Zealand. She was Brisbane City Council CEO (2000-2010). Jude oversaw the $2+ billion CLEM7 tunnel and record growth in bus patronage. She directed the centre-led strategic procurement initiative, which resulted in $89 million savings. Jude instituted asset management and project management reforms and led significant organisational cultural change. She has also been the CEO for the Cities of Moreland and St Kilda in Victoria and the City of Adelaide, South Australia. Jude is a national Fellow of the Australian Institute of Public Administration and was State President for four years. She has been a Chairperson of Queensland Urban Utilities, Director of Air Services Australia, Translink Transit Authority, Brisbane Institute, Australia Trade Coast, City of Brisbane Investment Corporation, International River Foundation, Brisbane Riverfestival, Adelaide City Marketing, Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority, the th 7 Australian Masters Games Board and the National Local Government Drugs and Alcohol Committee. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Jude was a member of Queensland’s Premier Infrastructure Taskforce in 2010 and the COAG Reform Council Expert Panel on Cities in 2011. She is a Director of Uniting Care Queensland. She was appointed by the NSW Government in May 2012 to the Independent Panel to Review Local Government in NSW. Jude is an acknowledged government and business leader, committed to innovation and bringing a sense of purpose to organisations. Her colleague network is immense. In June 2010 Jude was honoured with an AO (Officer of the Order of Australia) for distinguished service to local government, particularly the Brisbane City Council, and to the community through contributions to business, professional development and philanthropic organisations. In June 2010, Lord Mayor Campbell Newman awarded her the Keys to the City of Brisbane. Jude holds post graduate qualifications in public policy and business administration from the University of Melbourne and Swinburne University. Integration of Cycling into the Built Environment Cycling as an active transport mode will not be taken up unless key issues are addressed. Good urban design and transport planning principles, strong advocacy, funding, and addressing the basic reasons why people don’t cycle all must be taken into account. Brisbane has been successful but like a lot of cities and communities it is till on a journey. Active Transport links to Public Health Australia is facing an obesity epidemic and an ageing population. Is this the crisis that will lead to serious investment in cycling? Or will the car gradually kill our community with kindness? This presentation will confront the need to address these issues and tease out the strategies needed to break the lifestyle patterns of a wealthy country.
