November MMXV
~A Rather Uncommon Almanac~
s old man winter wakes, it'll be time to begin putting your garden to
bed. After the leaves have fallen, you can once again start pruning
deciduous trees and shrubs. If your area normally
has a warm spell or “Indian Summer,” hold off
until you’re sure the plants are dormant. If you
prefer a live Christmas tree consider getting one you can plant
after the yuletide ends. Save yourself some work by digging the
hole now while the soil is workable, and cover the soil with
Fraser Fir
burlap. When you prune, keep some of the cuttings to root

indoors. Continue planting winter and spring-flowering bulbs.
If the ground isn’t frozen, you can continue to plant perennials and November is a
good time to pick up discounted plants. In frost-free areas, you can keep on
planting bulbs that don’t require a winter’s chill, such as anemone, amaryllis,
calla lilies, freesia, lilies, and garlic.
"November comes, And November goes, With the last red
berries, And the first white snows. With night coming
early, And dawn coming late, And ice in the bucket, And
frost by the gate..." ~Clyde Watson

Last Quarter ~ Nov 3rd
New moon ~ Nov 11th
November continues the theme of adjusting and adapting.
Planetary energies are confusing, especially around the New Moon
on November 11. It would be beneficial to focus on manifesting
resourcefulness, tenacity, and devotion—all positive Scorpio
qualities. A water themed meditation would be very calming. The
Full Moon on November 25th may amplify feelings of frustration.
This is a good time to practice cultivating patience and being a
healthy source of acceptance to others whenever possible. As the holidays approach
it will be important to stay calm and centered.

The Story Of The Overzealous Lawyer
Ohio born Clement Vallandigham was a politician and lawyer
who was well known for his work as a democrat who stood
against the civil war and sat in the house of representatives for
two terms. Though the most interesting thing about him is his death. At the
age of 50, in 1871, Vallandigham was defending a murder suspect. As he was
demonstrating to the jury that the victim could have committed suicide, he
accidentally shot himself in the same way. The case was made right there, the
suspect was declared not guilty, but that was no help to Vallandigham, who
died of the injury.
