El Señor llama a la parroquia de San Clemente a ser una comunidad amigable, que adore y sirva al Señor con fe, esperanza y amor. A Reflection by Deacon Paul: Epifania de Año Nuevo New Year’s Epiphany “Epiphany” is an experience of sudden and striking realization. Generally the term is used to describe religious or philosophical discoveries; it is an enlightening realization that allows a problem or situation to be understood from a new and deeper perspective. For the Magi who came to find Jesus it was a “the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi” the realization that God is with us and Jesus was brought to the attention of the thgentiles. During 2016 St. Clement will celebrate the 125 year of the establishment of the parish in Lansdowne. In 1891 Jesus was brought to the people of Lansdowne to enlighten them, to make Jesus manifest to the people in this area. Also, during 2016 Pope Francis invites us to celebrate a Jubilee Year. A central message of Pope Francis; papacy is compassion and pardon and so he declared this jubilee year to be a Holy Year of Mercy. Pope Francis encourages the church to be more evident in its mission of being witnesses to mercy. It is often through acts of mercy that Godthis many manifest to people of no faith. During our 125 Year as a parish let us take time to consider how we can demonstrate Mercy by acts of compassion and pardon. Mystery of God Atheism is on the rise. Skeptical thinkers attack belief in God as irrational or, even worse, dangerous. The so-called New Atheism has attracted millions of young people thanks to bestselling books such as The God Delusion and God Is Not Great. How should Christians respond? How can we turn the tide of secularism and draw people back to God? In The Mystery of God: Who God Is and Why He Matters, Bishop Robert Barron reaches into our rich intellectual tradition to teach us how. Using the insights of St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Pope Benedict XVI, he uncovers a clear yet sophisticated understanding of what we mean by “God.” On January 5, 7-8:30pm, our parish will begin the Mystery of God: Who God Is and Why He Matters, program. To find out more information, please contact Deacon Paul or stop by the parish office to sign up. A dedicated group of people gather each Saturday morning at about 9:30 am at St. Clement to distribute food to needy families in the community. Last Quarter we helped over 5,000 people and the number grows. The Pantry can always use help. Also, on Wednesdays during the school year a group gathers around 8:30 am at St. Clement to prepare “backpack” lunches to be given out at Riverview Elementary School on Fridays to children who will have little to eat over the weekend. The Pantry also needs financial support so they can purchase food from the Maryland Food Bank to distribute. Please consider making a contribution on-line or using one of the yellow or green envelopes in the Narthex. For more information contact Bill Selway at 410 940-8371 or e-mail [email protected] The Liturgy Committee The Liturgy Committee assists the PLD in setting goals and standards for the overall direction of liturgy within the parish. We always need more people to help ... if you would like to join the Liturgy Committee or serve as a Liturgical Minister, please contact Jim DeBoy (443-799-3096 or [email protected]). St. Clement Parish On-Line Eucharistic Adoration Eucharistic adoration is the act of worshiping God as He is present in the consecrated Eucharist. As the Magi said “We have come to do him homage.” As Pope Saint John Paul II wrote: “...the gaze of the Church is constantly turned to her Lord, present in the Sacrament of the Altar, in which she discovers the full manifestation of his boundless love. “Could you not watch with me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40). St. Clement offers Eucharistic Adoration each Tuesday from 2 to 7 pm. It is a time of quiet prayer, reflection or meditation on scripture possibly using Lectio Divina. In this busy world it is good to have quiet time for God and for oneself Faith Formation January 3, 2016 Parish Facebook www.facebook.com/ SaintClementICatholicParish Young Adult Facebook www.facebook.com Look for Saint Clement I Young Adults YouTube: www.youtube.com/stclementone Twitter: @StClementLansdo On-Line Giving: https://www.myowngiving.com/Register.aspx Or you can link to any one of these by using the parish web site: www.stclement1.org Youth Ministry Programs Our Faith Formation Program welcomes all families who are interested in further developing their Catholic faith. All middle and high school faith formation classes, including Confirmation preparation, meet on Monday evenings from 6:30pm – 8pm. Youth Ministries Last year was certainly a busy year for all young people involved in our Youth Ministry. In April, nearly 18 teens attended the Archdiocese’ Youth Pilgrimage through downtown Baltimore. In July St. Clement’s own Maria Velazquez was selected to participate in the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s HIGH-LI program, a week long institute that forms young people into active and engaged leaders within their schools, churches, and communities. The teens in our Youth Ministry program also participate in monthly “Community Nights.” This February, our Youth will hit the slopes for an evening of Snow Tubing. We are always in need of adult volunteers who would like to share and teach their faith to the youngest members of our parish.
