Keepin’ Up With Those
Books
student attendance!!!
Each year the Tennessee State Department of Education categorizes schools. One of the criteria that determines a school’s classification is attendance. In
order to make Annual Measureable Objective (AMO),
a school must have an average daily attendance rate of
93 %. Therefore, it is critical that all students come to school each and
every day. Please send your children to school each day on time.
When a student is absent he misses valuable instructional time with
the teacher. This class time is very difficult to make up. Please ensure your child goes to bed early, and gets up in enough time to get to
school on time, and once here, be the SHINING STARS we know
they are.
Parents, please remind your
child of his/her responsibility to
prevent damage to his/her textbooks. Textbooks
should be properly secured in lockers and
should never be left in the halls, outside, or in a
teacher’s classroom. Students should never give
anyone their locker combinations and should
make sure their lockers are locked after each
visit. Following these simple steps will help to
minimize lost textbook fines and report card
holds at the end of the academic school year.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Homework… What’s The Point?
Homework is an effective tool when used as a
form of practice designed for application of
knowledge. Homework for young children is assigned for the purpose of developing study habits
and also for the purpose of involving parents. For both elementary and secondary students, practice helps answer the question, "How will this knowledge be applied?" Without practice,
little long-term learning occurs. Please make sure that your
child completes his/her homework each night. Teachers at
A.Maceo Walker Middle School are assigning homework each
day.
Students and Parents, please
assist the A. Maceo Walker faculty and staff
in ensuring your child is safe in his/her
travels to and from school, by cautioning
them to cross at the appropriate and designated places. The bridge located on the
west side of the school is NOT a clear and
safe zone for crossing, as a child was injured
by a car while crossing there during the
early morning hours. Please join us and
continue to reminds our students that we
want them to practice “SAFETY FIRST” at
all times!
Parents, as we embark upon the
10th anniversary
of 911, please
take a few moments and share
with your child
the significance of
September 11,
2001, and the importance of always remembering all
of those who lost their lives.
Parent Tips for a Successful
School Year (Part 2)
Parents, there are a few simple steps
you can do to help your child keep all
the pieces together for a successful school year.
Communicate – Frequent short talks have more
of an impact than infrequent long talks. Provide
opportunities for your child to discuss the challenges they face as they develop their own identity and make their own choices.
Say Thank You - Teachers strive to inspire students to be lifelong learners. They often make the
work they do look effortless, but it requires a lot
of work and countless hours of planning to do
what they do. Let them know you appreciate
them.
