Numeracy
The children will continue to work with the Primary
Framework and will be working with Unit 1. This will
include working with negative numbers, decimals.
fractions, long multiplication and division working with
multi-step word problems, using a calculator,2D and 3D
shapes, metric and imperial units, data handling,
angles-measuring & calculating, ratio & proportion.
Literacy
In Literacy the children will be reading and comparing stories with
familiar settings. They analyse various settings. We will discuss
atmosphere and common features and themes. The children will
investigate and write sentences to describe a setting.
We will also be working on playscripts. The children will identify the
features and conventions of written dialogue in Roald Dahls ‘The
Twits’ and then write dialogue. We will compare this with a play based
on the same story. Finally we will write and perform play scripts
based on familiar stories.
Children will also be working on their own targets and reading every
day
IPC - ACTIVE PLANET – Earthquakes and
Volcanoes.
In this unit we’ll be finding out about the Active
Earth. Learning about Earthquakes and Volcanoes.
The Big Idea
The tectonic plates that form the Earth’s crust are
always moving. Even the smallest movement can
cause huge earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis that
devastate communities across the world. We will
learn how it all happens and understand why it
happens.

Religious Education
Unit 3A: What do signs and symbols mean in
religion?
In this unit children learn about some of the possible
or intended meanings of a wide range of signs and
symbols. The unit considers a variety of religious
symbols and their meanings for those who use them.
Children are encouraged to investigate examples of
symbolic language and to deepen their understanding of
some common religious concepts
Unit 3B: How and why do Hindus celebrate Divali?
This unit introduces children to some of the beliefs
and practices of Hindus through the celebration of
Divali. There is a focus upon how these beliefs are
exemplified in this festival. The religious significance
of what Divali means to believers is highlighted, using
pictures, drama, storytelling and model making.
PE
Thursday
Year 3 P.E. day will be Thursday, please ensure that
your child has their P.E. kit in school on that day.
Invasion games: In this unit children develop skilful
attacking and team play. They learn how to work well
as a team when attacking, and explore a range of
ways to defend.
In all games activities, children think about how to
use skills, strategies and tactics to outwit the
opposition. In invasion games, they enter their
opponent's territory with the 'ball' and try to get
into good positions for shooting or reaching the
'goal'.
Homework
Dates
Numeracy – Given out on Mondays to be returned on
Thursdays. IXL-children will be expected to work on
IXL at least once each week.
Literacy – Given out on Thursdays to be returned on
Mondays.
Spellings-Will be given out each week for a test the
following week.
Reading – all children should read each day and record
in their reading record book.
