Setting Up Student Interventions and Progress Monitoring

To set up individual student interventions and progress monitoring start from the One-Click reports.
1. Use the filter tools to find the student(s) needing interventions scheduled. You can do this by
checking one or more students to start scheduling interventions. Select multiple students only if
they are being scheduled for the same intervention. (Hint: always schedule interventions first!) You
can do so by selecting Schedule Interventions from the With Selected menu.
2. The list of interventions on the following screen will be based on the intervention bank set up by the
internal/external coach for the building. (See separate directions for setting up the intervention
bank.) If no intervention bank has been set up, the only option available will be Custom
Interventions, which must be entered completely for each student. The following example
demonstrates how to select an intervention from the intervention bank. (See page 7 for directions
on how to set up custom interventions.)

3. Select the desired intervention.
The intervention will appear with the defaults that were set up when the intervention was defined.
The start date, schedule and time may be altered if necessary. The intervention is initially assigned
to the person scheduling the intervention, but can be reassigned by selecting another person (start
typing the name to find the person more quickly).
4. Click the Schedule button to save the intervention schedule. The next window displayed is a
summary informing you that the intervention has been scheduled, and that progress monitoring
automatically assigned.
The default progress monitoring is scheduled automatically at this point. (The default assessments
were identified as the best global measures for monitoring growth at each grade.)
5. A second intervention can be added from the one click reports as described above. However, if
there is already an intervention scheduled for the student, there will be an intermediate screen to
allow removal of the existing intervention first, or to leave it as a second intervention. Uncheck the
Page 2 of 7
box for any interventions to be kept active. Otherwise, if the box remains checked, the intervention
will be closed when OK is clicked.
If an existing intervention is closed in order to create a new one for a student, this message will
appear:
And next…
This student’s intervention and progress monitoring are now scheduled using the defaults
associated with the intervention and the appropriate grade level progress monitoring measure.

6. From here, a second
progress monitoring
schedule may be added if
desired. This may be used
when a student is
performing far enough
below grade level that the
grade level measure will
not produce reliable results
until interventions have
progressed for a while.
Repeat the process of
finding and selecting the
student(s) from the OneClick reports as described
above, but click on the
option to schedule
progress monitoring in the
With Selected menu.
Float the cursor over the black circle to view details. Otherwise, select the test to be used for
additional progress monitoring.
Second measures default to once a week, with weekly administration. The second measure schedule
may be edited, including changing the schedule to bi-weekly or monthly if desired.

7. At this point, the option will be provided to change the schedule of the primary progress monitoring
measure. This is done in order to allow the possibility to monitor a student less frequently on the
grade-level progress monitoring measure, and more frequently on the secondary measure. This may
be useful for students who have skills far below their grade level. Periodic progress monitoring on
grade level will allow continued attention to how the student is performing on grade-level
expectations, while the secondary measure will allow more frequent monitoring on a measure more
sensitive to growth, given the student’s current skill levels.
It is possible to reassign the person responsible for the intervention and/or progress monitoring. To
change the person responsible for interventions, click on enter time in the interventions menu. On
the next screen, simply click on the selector for staff responsible and change to select the correct
person.
8. The intervention schedule can be changed by clicking the dates under the name (indicated by the
blue dotted underline). The start date can be changed by clicking on the date. Click to add or change
the end date (shows as none in the image above – the end date had not been specified for this
sample student).

9. It is also possible to edit the person responsible for progress monitoring, the administration
schedule, and the start and end date in a similar fashion. Start by clicking on Enter Scores in the
progress monitoring menu. Follow the same process as described above.
You can remove progress monitoring and/or intervention schedules by clicking on the student’s
name link and clicking the Remove button on the student detail page that comes up. Do this with
great forethought, as it might make more sense to end an intervention and start a new one.

10. To create and schedule a custom intervention, select the first option (Schedule Custom Intervention
– see page one of this document for an image). This option is available for cases where none of the
typical interventions are appropriate for an individual or group of students.

or intensive).
Instructions, research base and
objectives are optional fields.
