Greetings,
Don’t let the name fool you—Garageland Rodeo is neither a garage band nor country band. They’re a
free-wheeling, 6 piece powerhouse that revels in playing rock and blues, with a lot of soul.
Formed in 2004, and currently celebrating their 11th Anniversary as a band, Garageland Rodeo is
comprised of local east bay musicians that bring a broad diversity of influences to the stage. They take
pride in their craft (whether unplugged or fully charged) and play for events of all kinds, from music
fests to weddings to wine bars to dive bars. Armed with both original songs as well as an eclectic mix
of covers, this band has come together to create their own distinct sound, original style, and warm,
welcoming energy.

the GarageLand Ro-Duo
Playing together in classic rock band, GarageLand Rodeo for more than eight years, Chris Bryant (CB)
and Jenny Starmack often found themselves playing songs at an open mic, or breaking out the acoustic guitar on a quiet weekend afternoon. Soon these musings turned into a focused effort to create a
set that they could actually play for an audience. Hence, GarageLand Ro-Duo became a reality and
since then CB and Jenny have been hitting Happy Hour and Acoustic Venues all over the Bay Area.
Their set list is pretty diverse, all the way from acoustic versions of classic rock and blues to some
heartfelt ballads and even some originals, Jenny enjoys the acoustic feel “It gives us a chance to do
some things you just can’t do in a six-piece rock band and CB is the perfect accompanist, he knows my
heart”.
Both Chris and Jenny have been playing music most of their lives, albeit not together until 2005. CB
has been grounded in Traditional Rock and Blues, while Jenny’s background in Gospel and Folk- Rock
lends itself to a like minded merge of fun and music played with a lot of soul.

Pat Brady: Bass, Vocals
Born in Los Angeles, raised in Northern California, Pat started his musical journey on the trumpet in grade school.
The British Invasion quickly changed his desire to follow Herb Alpert, and instead it was the likes of Paul McCartney, John Entwistle, Chris Squire, and John Paul Jones that peaked his desire to “get under a band” and lift it with
the power of a bass guitar. Those early bass icons grew to include Mark King, Ray Brown, and Phil Lesh. Diversity
in musical styles is what kept him listening to all genres of music. Playing bass for 35 years, he had his “15 minutes
of fame” in the 80’s in a band opening for the metal Christian band ‘Stryper’ at the San Jose Civic, and backing Eddie Money for 5 songs at a benefit concert. “The energy on stage is euphoric, and it’s what keeps me going”.
Chris Bryant: Guitars, Vocals
“cb”, OR “CH’BODI” has been playing guitar and making music since his early teens and has had a passion for
music in general - most specifically traditional blues and rock but he enjoys pretty much everything as long as
it’s done with passion and feeling. Influences are pretty much anything that makes a sound - with personal fondness for most “classic” rock, blues soul and country artists..... He formed GarageLand Rodeo in 2003-2004 after
a brief hiatus from performing. The idea was simple, create a BAND of like minded individuals with a focus on
the music and members likes and influences and offer something more spirited and unique. The material would
be limited only by the imagination of the members - genres would be mixed and arrangements would be tossed in
the musical salad. The belief that there are only two kinds of music in the world -”The kind you like and the kind
you don’t” have always been strong as are the hopes are he’s doing the former. Though some of the faces and
names change from time to time the core and values of the band have remained true to the original vision - good
music by good people.
Bruce Campbell, Guitars, Vocals
Bruce formed a band just days after picking up a guitar at age 10, and never looked back. He has played in countless bands since then, and was part of the rock scene in the East Bay club scene in the 70’s and 80’s. In the
1990’s, he took a detour into bluegrass and became a Bay Area fixture (and all over the Western states) in that
musical genre on standup bass, guitar and banjo. In the 21st century, he revisited his rock and blues roots and
discovered classic county music as well. It’s fair to say that Bruce has eclectic tastes in music, and brings that
eclecticism to his approach to music overall. Take note: Bruce’s amp doesn’t stop st 10. (It goes to 12).
Tod Dauer: Keyboards, Vocals
Tod Dauer, keys player, took his first piano lesson in 2nd grade while Eisenhower was President, and got immediately hooked on the promise of what music can bring early on. 8 years of classical music training on Bach,
Beethoven and Rachmaninoff, were quickly overshadowed when Tod saw Jerry Lee Lewis set his piano on fire
on live TV. The power of Rock and Roll was then borne within and there was no looking back. Thru the 60’s, Tod
worked extensively in Pacific Northwest bands, emulating the sounds coming out of Seattle/Tacoma, influenced
by the Fabulous Wailers, Dynamics, Viceroys, Kingsmen, and others. It was at that time that the Hammond
Organ/Leslie Speaker tone became completely ingrained as his signature keys sound, and remains his favorite to
this day. He continued to hone his abilities playing with PNW bands into the 70’s, while listening to Kent Morrill,
Barry Peterson, Al Kooper, Billy Preston, and some jazz greats such as Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff and Jimmy
McGriff. Moving to the Bay Area, his wife surprised him with a freebie Hammond CV, and of course, a Leslie
122 purchase was not far behind. This led him to join a local Americana band called the Tunebuckets, and also
local stints with the Bautista Blues Band, the Hard Livin’ Band, and Artisan, finally culminating as the resident
keyboard player with the Armando’s Blues Jam House Band. Tod’s joined up with GLR recently, and is totally
enthused about the band’s songs, members, and where they’re going(!)....
Jenny Starmack: Lead Vocals
Jenny grew up in San Diego and has been living in the Bay Area for over twenty five years. As it was a musical
family Jenny’s home was always filled with music. She starting singing in school and churches as a child and
continues to this day. Jenny started writing music in the late 80’s when she and her sister played the coffee
house circuit all around the Bay Area and by special invitation to certain events such as Spirit West Coast.
While raising a family, Jenny led worship, taught children’s choirs and gave private vocal lessons to children for
over ten years. Through teaching Jenny developed a singing style all her own. “It’s all about singing from the
heart” has been Jenny’s most important lesson for her students to learn. Melody and emotion are the things
that drive her to not only perform a song but to take a song and turn it into a story to be told. Her favorite vocalists range from Robert Plant to Steve Perry, Ann Wilson to Eva Cassidy.
Jenny hopes to be able to use her talents and a lyricist and melodic writer over the next year, by collaborating
with the members of GLR to bring original music to the forefront of what they do.
Charles Waltmire: Drums, Percussion
Picking up Cream’s “Toad” on a shortwave radio changed Charles life he fell in love with improvised music and
especially with great musicians. He got some drums, got together with some friends, and started this journey
of love. The first time he played a gig, and saw the lights on his cymbals and his friends tuning up: It was one of
the best feelings of his life. As is the case with so many others, Life derailed dreams of stardom, in his case for 30
years and due to an innate musicality and an ability to play well with others that never died Charles came to be a
member of this band of great musicians who love to improvise and love the music. Charles owes a debt of thanks
to Ginger Baker and the crew that drove his
teenage dreams to come true.
~
Erol Gokbora: Saxophone
In grade school, Erol heard a family friend, who was a professional saxophone player, play the Tenor Sax and
immediately knew that he want to pay the horn. He has always had a passion for the sounds that the horn can
produce. He has played in orchestras, a marching band, jazz swing bands, a Dixieland jazz band, blues bands, and
rock and roll bands. Some of his past recent local bands include: The EastBay Bearcats (Dixieland Jazz), Downtown Blues (Blues & Rock), Lafayette StudioBig Band (Jazz), and The Sunday Blues Band (Blues & Rock). He is
currently playing with Garageland Rodeo (Rock & Blues), Paul Dunn and One Flight Up (Blues R&B and Soul),
and The Cooltones (Big Band Jazz). He continues his music education with a local professional.
Erol feels that Garageland Rodeo is an inspirational band that really motivates people to get up and dance every
performance. All the players are excellent and experienced musicians, who take classic rock and blues songs
and creatively arrange those songs for a unique sound.
Jay Olson: Harp, Guitar, Vocals
Jay was introduced to the harmonica through my Dad, he would play around the kitchen table, and on the many
weekend car rides he took “up North” to visit relatives in Wisconsin. He began to play the harmonica when he
was around 15 or so when he bought my first harmonica and learned “Little Child” by the Beatles, early influences were Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie’ music. He listened to Sonny Terry play on many of the old folk records.
Jay owned an old “61” VW with no radio; so he learned to steer with his knees and practiced hisharmonica while
he drove. (Don’t try this at home). He eventually bought a harmonica rack and continued safe driving while
learning to play.
Jay played for many years without the benefit of other musicians. Around 1998 began to play with others. which
he believes helped him immensely. He also discovered that more than one key of harmonica was needed, along
with the knowledge that there were many different ways to play. Playing at open mics and casual jams allowed
Jay to improve his playing to the point where he was asked to play with Jenny and CB in the Ro-Duo. Jay really
enjoy splaying music with others and finds adding to a song with any small accent is both challenging and a pleasure.
