Ida Wells, Booker T. Washington, and WEB DuBois

HISTORY 7 WEEKLY PLANS
OCTOBER 17 TH – 21 ST, 2016
TEACHER: MR. TENNEY
Black Reformers:
Ida Wells, Booker T. Washington, and W.E.B. DuBois
Once the “Jim Crow” laws became well established in the South, blacks had
virtually no leverage for trying to overcome them. They had little money, no elected
representatives to fight for their interests, and – at least initially – no leaders within their
own communities to focus their energies for the struggle ahead. That began to change
when the work of different types of leaders, individuals we’ll examine this week, began to
be known and felt. Yet it’s important to remember that even after 1900, it would take
another 65 years for any black civil rights gains to be “fully realized in law.”
