About First Federal Savings
Vision
First Federal is a community-oriented financial institution that proactively builds relationships by providing
unmatched customer service in delivering mortgage loans and retail deposit services to all demographics,
while ensuring the strength of the institution.
History
First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Newark was chartered in 1934. As a Federal savings
association, the institution’s original purpose was to provide customers with a safe place to keep their
savings and a source of mortgage money. In the many years since its foundation, First Federal Savings has
not strayed from its chartered purpose.
To this day, First Federal still emphasizes those traditional primary services: Federally insured deposits in a
variety of rates and terms, and mortgage loans of all kinds. This kind of specialization allows First Federal
to be the most efficient provider of these services in the area.
Providing the highest level of customer service available anywhere is another focus area for First Federal.
The Company prides itself on providing customized solutions based on individual needs. Customers
deserve--and receive--friendly, professional service delivered on a daily basis by First Federal’s associates.
Additionally, First Federal is a unique financial institution in Central Ohio in that it is a mutually-owned
company. Rather than being owned by stockholders, First Federal is owned by its depositing and
borrowing customers. As a mutual company, First Federal is in the truest sense “locally owned.” The
daily decisions affecting local savers and borrowers are made in the main office in Newark, Ohio.
First Federal’s clear priorities have always been, and continue to be, specialization in savings and mortgage
loans, attention to friendly, personal service, and local ownership and management.
First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Newark is a federally chartered mutually-owned savings
association whose primary federal regulator is The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
