Environmental Mitigation on the River Mease and Bottesford Beck
This event will provide an informative and interesting insight
into the environmental mitigation measures implemented on the
River Mease and Bottesford Beck on behalf of the client, key
stakeholders and the scheme designers.
“Moving goalposts” - River Mease Mitigation Scheme –
Collaborative multi-stakeholder team work at the 11th hour
River Mease Partnership formed to address the negative
impact from sewage treatment works, road runoff and
agricultural land (Environment Agency, Natural England,
Severn Trent Water, Trent Rivers Trust, Lichfield District
Council, South Derbyshire District Council and North West
Leicestershire District Council). The River Restoration plan was
developed for the River Mease and Gilwiskaw Brook to help
achieve the objectives of the Habitats Directive and the Water
Framework Directive. Landowners changed their feelings as
the project progressed with knock-on effects. Mitigated by
flexible approach to design evolution between designer
contractor, key stakeholders and the landowners.
“People power” - Bottesford Beck – Translating aspirations
of the many into a practical program of works
Pilot scheme with multiple stakeholders: EA, North Lincolnshire
County Council; Severn Trent Water; Shire Group of IDBs;
Friends of Bottesford Beck. Providing the missing link between
multiple stakeholders.
