Mitten Craft: Materials needed: two mitten cutouts (right and left hand), animal cutouts from story (see included template, retrieved from: http://www.janbrett.com/) Procedures: cut out white mittens on construction paper, cut out animals, color the animals, retell the story as you put the animals in the mitten in sequential order (you may wish to have all of the materials cut out before you begin the lesson) 4. Toilet Paper Roll Caterpillar and Food: Materials needed: toilet paper rolls, green and black construction paper, glue, green pipe cleaners, wiggly eyes, fruit cutouts or stickers Procedures: glue green construction paper on toilet paper roll, make caterpillar face with mouth hole for mouth, glue on wiggly eyes, glue on pipe cleaner antennas, glue on legs, color the food pictures and cut them out, feed caterpillar in sequential order 4. Banana Caterpillar: Materials needed: bananas, cutting board, knife, green and red jell‐o mix, chocolate chips, pretzel sticks, Twizzlers pull‐and‐peel, paper plates Procedures: slice up banana, arrange so it looks like caterpillar, sprinkle red jell‐o powder on head and green jell‐o powder on body, use two chocolate chips for the eyes, break up pretzel sticks for the legs, add Twizzlers for the antennas, admire then eat and enjoy! 5. Food Scene: Materials needed: graham crackers for bridge, icing to stick graham crackers together, shredded coconut for grass, green food coloring to dye coconut, blue fruit rollup for river, goat animal crackers, paper plates, grape or jellybean for the troll Procedures: break graham crackers, use three pieces to make bridge, adhere bridge together using icing, place shredded coconut into Ziploc bag add a few drops of food coloring and shake bag to make grass, cut fruit rollup to make river and place under bridge, give each child three goat animal crackers and a grape, use food to retell the story 3. Act Out Story with Masks Materials needed: goat and troll masks, table for the bridge Procedures: reenact story with props made throughout the week, let each child have an opportunity to be a goat and the troll The Three Little Pigs by James Marshall Vocabulary: straw stick brick wolf chimney huff chin pot snout blow bought/buy build Activities: 1. Read Book The Three Little Pigs by James Marshall 2. Paint pig with shaving cream and glue Materials needed: outline of pig, shaving cream, red food coloring, school glue, bowl and spoon Procedures: mix equal amounts of shaving cream and glue in a bowl, add a little red food coloring to make it pink, spread the mixture on the outline of the pig, let dry. 3. Wolf puppet Materials needed: printer, paper, paper bag, glue or tape, scissors Procedures: print out the template, fold the corners of the flippy tab under and glue/ tape them to make a triangular head shape. Glue or tape the nose onto the end of the triangle. Lift the flap/snout and glue the tongue on underneath it. Glue the eyes and ears onto the head. Glue the arms onto the bag. Glue/tape the tail onto the back 4. Paper plate pig Materials needed: paper plate, dessert sized paper plate*, pink construction paper, pink pipe cleaner, black marker, scissors, glue, hole punch (optional) *If you don’t have a small paper plate you can always make a circle with pink construction paper. Procedures: paint both paper plates pink, glue the small plate onto the large plate, not in the center, but off set, cut out all of your shapes from pink construction paper: you will need: 4 pig feet, 1 round snout, and 2 triangle ears, glue all of your paper shapes onto your pig's body, use a marker to draw the eyes on, don't forget to draw on your pig's nostrils, make a hole at the top of your paper plate with a hole punch or scissors, thread the pink pipe cleaner through the hole and curl it. 5. Houses Materials needed: pieces of construction paper, straw, popsicle sticks, red construction paper bricks, glue Procedures: make the three houses with each one of the different materials, add a roof and a door to each house Peanut Butter Rhino Vocabulary: rhino squish monkey sandwich elephant picnic cave lunch lunchbox Activities: 1. Materials needed: paper plate, purple paint, cup, construction paper, glue, marker, popsicle stick Procedures: paint plate and cup purple, attach construction paper cutouts to the rhino, glue eyes, attach popsicle stick to bottom of mask. 3. Construction paper lunch box Materials needed: glue, construction paper cutout of lunchbox, apple, banana, carrot and peanut butter sandwich Procedures: glue each one of the food items in the lunch box 4. Peanut butter sandwich Materials needed: bread, peanut butter, knife, plate Procedures: spread the peanut butter on the bread with the knife. Place the second piece of bread on top of the peanut butter. Enjoy! 5. Rhino picture Materials needed: construction paper cutout of rhino, horn, lunchbox, tree, peanut butter sandwich, real peanut butter and glue. Procedures: glue all cutouts on blue construction paper, spread peanut butter on rhino’s bottom and place bread cutout on the peanut butter.
