Does this sound familiar – You wait all day for that one hour of “me” time. That one hour when there's no kids pulling at you or dishes to be done or meals to be made. You've got so many great ideas flowing through you right now and you’re eager to get to your computer to bring them to life. But then that hour comes and suddenly you're not sure where to start. You click between Facebook groups, check out the dozens of drafted ideas you’ve yet to publish, wonder if you should update your website, and suddenly that hour is gone. And you’ve done nothing. Now you’re left feeling defeated – you KNOW you have what it takes to be successful, but you just can’t seem to get “there.” And that’s because YOU DON’T HAVE YOUR MAP! Or maybe you do, but you’re missing the “YOU ARE HERE” part. And without that, how can you even know where to start? If you’re struggling with the thought of "I just don't have the time..." you NEED this planner. My name is Amber Temerity and I’m here to tell you: running a business doesn’t have to take all day! I do! But in this instance, printing out the planner (double-sided!) and putting pen-to-paper makes all the difference in your success. Getting your words onto actual paper – whether it’s your daily task list, a brainstorming session, or appointments for next week – allows you to then focus and prioritize. It also guarantees that you’ll have it all in one place, versus trying to find something specific as you hunt through your poorly labeled Word documents. Putting pen to paper is also a great cognitive exercise, keeping your mind sharp and allowing you to better remember that which you write out. By writing on paper, you give your brain a chance to do its job, to filter out the less important stuff and bring to the forefront the information you most need to focus on it that moment. Finally, it helps to prevent distractions, keeping you from going to draft a marketing post and instead losing an entire hour watching panda videos on YouTube. Well, I say let’s make it a full 30. Give yourself 30 days to explore your current habits and mindset. Adjust as it feels natural for you but mainly, allow yourself to be with no judgement. After the first 30 days of using this planner, take a look at where you’re at. Did you unconsciously progress towards better habits just by tracking them? Does an area stand out to you that needs more attention than the others? Do you feel more confident in your ability to get from where you are today to where you want to be tomorrow? Continue using the check-in tracker and take a moment to evaluate where you’re at on the last day of each month. Being able to see your progress, your wins, and your still remaining challenges will help you better align your priorities and goals as your business grows. Having a well-defined mission allows you to: Stay on track with your goals and intentions. Be seen as an expert in your field. Grow a reliable and engaged community of supporters and future clients. Keeping someone’s focus is hard. Keeping your own focus might be even harder. While it’s understandable to want to have a broad mission to best encompass as that you know and love, having a specific mission in mind will better allow you to keep that focus and reconsider certain content or marketing strategies that might otherwise waste your time and do nothing for your audience. Having a clear mission also allows you to have confidence in what you’re selling before you even start to sell it! In one sentence, what prompted you to start this business? What three things do you most want to be known for? In one sentence, what does your business do for others? What makes your business special compared to those with similar offerings? NOTES: One of the very first things you should do when beginning your business is to think of the WHO. - no, not the band! - Who do you most want to help? Who is seeking exactly what you have to offer? Knowing your IDEAL audience will lead to IDEAL clients - people who are so ready to work with you, they practically throw their money at you. When you consider your ideal client, think about his/her journey and what has led them to you, and how they tie into your overall mission. Don’t be afraid to get too specific with this exercise. It’s a way to imagine your IDEAL clients, but you are not bound by what you write. Questions to consider: How old are they? Are they men, women, or a mixture of both? What is their education level? Their yearly income? Which social media platforms do they use? Which ones do they avoid? What keeps them up at night? Who do they idolize? Who are their mentors in both their professional and personal lives? What most drives them to make decisions (their head, their heart, outside influences)? What stresses them out the most? What do they do in their spare time? NOTES: Mapping out content is a lot like drafting up an outline to an essay. (I know – you thought those days were over, right?) But if you’re sitting there, constantly wondering just what to share and when to share it, you NEED to draft up an outline. Step One: Pick a Goal Are you trying to be informative, persuasive, or personal? Step Two: Pick a subject related to said goal that will WOW your ideal client. Step Three: Write out 3-5 points for that subject. Step Four: Use those points as the headlines to draft your posts. Remember: YOU MUST ALLOW YOUR CREATIVITY TO FLOW. There are no wrong answers, don’t worry about perfection here, simply welcome any and all ideas without judgement. Flesh out these posts as they come to you. Simply developing these headlines will GUARANTEE a better flow of ideas when it comes time to write.
