Alexis Heraclides: Biographical note e-mail: [email protected] Home tel.no: 0301210-7253314, Mobile phone no: 00306972620603 Address: Alkmanos 18, Athens 11528, Greece Alexis Heraclides (born in 1952, in Alexandria) is professor of International Relations and conflict analysis at the Department of Political Science and History of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Athens). Previously he served as senior counsellor for minorities and human rights at the Greek Foreign Ministry (1983-1997) and in that capacity participated actively in a number of intergovernmental conferences and meetings, notably in the context of the CSCE/OSCE, the United Nations, the European Community (European Political Cooperation) and the Council of Europe. He was also appointed as alternate expert of the UN Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities (UN Commission of Human Rights) (1990-1992). He holds a BA in political science from the Panteion School of Political Sciences, an M.Sc. in International Relation from the University of London (University College, where he studied under John Burton, the father of conflict resolution in IR) and a Ph.D. from the University of Kent (with A.J.R. Groom as supervisor). His main publications cover intervention in separatist conflicts, secession and selfdetermination, ethnicity and nationalism, the CSCE/OSCE, images/perceptions in foreign policy and specific conflicts mainly from a conflict resolution perspective, such as Kosovo, Southern Sudan, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Cyprus question and the Greek-Turkish conflict. His more recent research is on humanitarian intervention in the long nineteenth century. The citations to his works are over 1700 (not including the citations in works in Greek).
