perpendicular and parallel lines in shapes, measure volume and capacity.

Historical, Geographical and Social Understanding
Children will be asking and answering questions such as; What are rainforests? Where are they located? What is the weather/climate like?
We will be learning about the different eco-systems in the different layers in the rainforest and how animals have adapted to their
environment. Throughout the topic, the children will learn using a range of skills such as map-reading, using secondary sources such as
library books, atlases and the internet to research the different aspects of rainforests. This will have cross curricular links with our English
when writing information texts.
Scientific and Technological Understanding
We will be learning about plants, trees and growth, what makes things grow and what plants need to stay healthy. We will be learning
about photosynthesis, investigating plant growth and learning about the functions of the parts of a plant as well as understanding seed
dispersal. The children will learn how to be more effective scientists, building on their investigative skills already gained and developed in
Year 3 so far including planning, predicting, observing and evaluating their own investigations.
Our other Science topic is magnets. We will be compare how things move on different surfaces, describe how magnets have two poles and
will predict how magnets attract and repel each other and work out which materials are magnetic.
Understanding the Arts We will be exploring and developing drawing and painting skills on the theme of landscape, exploring the work of
various artists. We will be looking at mark-making skills as well as using a variety of paint and mixed media to create rainforest landscapes,
not forgetting the rainforest animals! During this term we will be also having Arts week!
