What is the current funding for Police Cadets and Student Firefighter schemes? How many are there? How does funding for these schemes compare to previous years and what are the projected figures for 2014 and 2015? Funding for Staffordshire Police Cadets is secured through sponsorship, mainly from private sector and fundraising. There are currently 2 units based in Stafford and Cannock, totalling 55 cadets. A third unit of 30 will start in Stoke-on-Trent during April. The PCC’s ambition is to establish units in all districts, boroughs over the next 2 years. Doing that is dependent on recruiting volunteers and securing enough additional funding. We have no input into the Student Firefighter scheme. What measures do you use to gauge public confidence in the Police and how has this measure changed since 2010? Staffordshire Police uses ‘Feeling the Difference’, the Staffordshire public opinion survey to gauge public confidence in the police. Arrangements will be reviewed soon. The current survey includes the following question which relates directly to this item: To what extent do you agree or disagree… “Taking everything into account I have confidence in the police in this area” Strongly agree, Tend to agree, Neither, Tend to disagree, Strongly disagree Figure 1 shows the percentage of people who have chosen the options ‘Tend to agree’ or ‘Strongly agree’ over the 15 ‘Feeling the Difference’ surveys to date. Note: Surveys 14 and 15 used different questionnaires so results are not directly comparable with previous surveys. How many marked patrol vehicles cover Staffordshire and how does this compare to the numbers in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013? The following are liveried patrol vehicles based on Local Policing Teams only. It does not include other operational vehicles. 2010/11 - 186 2011/12 - 179 2012/13 - 180 2013/14 – 158 In 2013 an efficiency review was instigated to maximise the use of police vehicles.
