102 Parsons Creek Drive Fort McMurray, Alberta T9K 0B3 Telephone: (780) 799-5704 Fax: (780) 799-5705 Ms. Lisa Miller Principal Mr. James Park Vice-Principal Dear Parents and Guardians, This message is a very IMPORTANT reminder about parking lot/street safety. First and foremost, the speed in our parking lot must not exceed 15 km/h. The safety of our children is at risk at anything beyond that limit. Driving at a greater speed will make it impossible to stop if a child runs or slips in front of a vehicle. Please, also remember, there is not enough space for everyone to enter and park in the lot. An easy solution is to park on the street and come in to pick up your child. If you do enter our parking lot, please do not stop behind vehicles already in the parking stalls. On numerous occasions, motorists have been unable to move because they are blocked. We added two additional staff members to supervise the parking lot in the morning during drop off times. These supervisors will be responsible for helping students; staff and guardians safely navigate our parking lot. *If you are parking on streets in our residential areas PLEASE BE MINDFUL of our surrounding residential families. Please do not block driveways or entrances/ exits to the street. Our surrounding residents need to have access to their vehicle for various safety reasons. If you must drive into the front drop off loop, please enter in the far entrance and continue out through the exit (closest to our front doors). There is to be no parking in the handicapped parking stalls if this is not your need. Also, please be diligent not to park in front of these stalls and block them from the drivers that do require access. Fort McMurray is a very busy city and parking is an issue at many locations. In fact, the increase in traffic has created many challenges throughout our city. Schools, however, are a special circumstance. Schools hold our children. These are precious gifts that the Lord has given us and we need to remind ourselves that nothing can be more important than keeping them safe. As parents and caregivers of these children we need to be constantly diligent about their safety. No one would ever want to injure a child due to impatience or reckless driving. Thank you to all who continue to be patient and courteous of the parking situation. We do realize that cold weather has caused an increase in traffic, however, the demands of safety remains the same. Let us all play our part to keep our St. Martha Family safe. Sincerely, James Park and Lisa Miller Servite Domino in laetitia! — "I will serve God cheerfully."
