NOTICES
Preaching elsewhere. In his role as Archdeacon for Generous Giving and Stewardship, Canon David is
preaching this morning at St Mark’s Church, Bessingby (Bridlington).
Security. As you will be aware, the national security threat remains severe, and York Minster remains in
the public eye. Please be aware that at 10.00 on Sundays the West and South Doors are closed for a few
minutes to ensure the safety of the procession. Please support our Minster Police, and our Hosts, as
they work to ensure your safety.
Sunday School. Children of primary school age are invited to join our Sunday School. Under-fives are
also welcome to join the Pre-School Sunday School (accompanied by their parent or carer). To do so,
please follow the cross to the Zouche Chapel during the second hymn. If there is anything that we need
to know about your child’s needs, please accompany your child to the Zouche Chapel and speak to a
Sunday School leader. When the administration of communion begins please go to pick up your child
from the Zouche Chapel so that they can come to the communion rail with you. If you are not sure of
the location of the Zouche Chapel, please ask a Steward to direct you.
Community Annual Meeting.
Our annual meeting is on Thursday 18th May at 7.30pm in the Chapter House. Please enter the Minster
by the south door. The Community Roll has now been frozen (until after the annual meeting) and
everyone will have had details of the elections to the Community Committee, the Cathedral Council and
Deanery Synod which take place at this meeting. I am pleased to say that a number of people have
already been proposed and seconded but there is still time to get your name, or the name of someone
else from our community, registered to be part of the elections to these important positions. It is very
important that the whole community is represented on these groups. Only those who signed up for the
Community Roll by Easter Day will be able to take part in these elections. Thank you to everyone who
has served on these groups for the last 3 years. Canon Michael
South Quire Aisle. As part of the ongoing repairs to the South Quire Aisle, a number of panels will need
to be removed from window s8, which sits directly above the doorway to the Zouche Chapel. This will
involve erecting an interior scaffold around this window. This scaffold will be supported by towers on
either side of the Zouche Chapel doorway, creating a tunnel through which the Chapel can be accessed
for the duration of the scaffold’s use – estimated as being about ten months. Three weeks has been
programmed for erecting the scaffold, which includes contingency time as well as hoarding installation,
the work is programmed to begin on Monday 15 May. Kathryn Blacker
Middlesbrough Foodbank
The Trustees of Middlesbrough Foodbank want to express their thanks to everyone who has been
supporting them so there is an invitation to an Open Day at their new depot on May 23rd. Rt. Revd. Paul

Minster briefings. Two Minster briefings have been held recently, focussing on the plans to restore the
Grand Organ. For those who were unable to attend, a summary document is available, please contact
Robert Sharpe, Director of Music, [email protected] for a copy.
Ellie on Placement. Ellie is currently on placement at St Mary’s Church, Tadcaster working alongside
Canon Sue Sheriff. She will return to the Minster on 29 May.
Digest of the Community Committee Meeting of 5 April 2017
 Thirteen members of the Committee met and after opening prayers a new Welcome Leaflet was
presented and discussed. After approval by the Communications team they will be available in
the Minster for worshippers and community members. Canon Michael then gave a resume of the
recent Minster Briefing.
 It was announced that a Head of Tower had been appointed and that ringers would soon be
recruited.
 A report of the Deanery Synod was given and a report of the Generous Giving scheme is to be
published in the Notice Sheet.
 The Social Action group has arranged an information evening for one of our charities, Embrace.
This will take place on 4 May in the school hall at 7.30. All are welcome.
 Plans for Messy Church have been put on hold as Ellie Bangay is currently on placement.
 The meeting then discussed the Minster’s response to a major national event.
 Plans for the AGM on 18 May were reported to be underway. This is an important meeting as
elections will take place for the new committee. Retiring members of the committee were
thanked for their service.
York Minster Walsingham Cell There will be a meeting of the Cell for a Eucharist in All Saints Chapel at
7.30 p.m. on Monday, 15th May. All are welcome to join us and also for light refreshments afterwards.

The Ebor Singers: The Sound of Drums. York Minster's Associate Choir, The Ebor Singers, is giving a
concert in the Quire on Saturday 27 May at 7.30pm, themed on the Siege of York in 1644. The choir will
trace the course of the Civil War with music from the war court of Charles I and songs performed in York
Minster during the Siege. This concert is one of several events that are part of a day-long
commemoration of the Siege of York promoted by the choir. This concert also marks the launch of the
choir’s new CD, of music from the English Civil War - copies will be available to purchase at the
concert. Tickets are £12 adult/£10 concessions, all welcome.

York Minster Walsingham Cell There will be a meeting of the Cell for a Eucharist
service in All Saints Chapel at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, 15th May. All are welcome
to join us and also for light refreshments afterwards.
Minster Mice a fortnightly service and social time for babies and toddlers and
their parents/carers with stories, singing and craft, including refreshments. Dates
for this term are: 3, 17 May, 7, 21 June, 5, 19 July. Beginning at 10am at the High
Altar in the Quire and ending informally after refreshments approx 11.30. All are

Minster Community Social Event : Safari Supper. Following last year’s successful
event we are holding another Safari Supper for the Minster Community. This is an
opportunity to meet friends old and new over a dinner with a
difference. Everyone makes a contribution – either by hosting and providing a
main course for 6-10 people or bringing a starter or dessert to share. We will
meet in the Minster School Hall for starters, enjoy a main course with a small
group in a different venue and then join together again for dessert and coffee.
Tickets are £5.00 to help cover the costs of main courses and drinks - main course
hosts will be given a contribution towards their costs. To reserve places, please
