The natural disaster I am
researching is a volcano. It is a
mountain or hill, where lava comes
out. It is caused by gas and pressure
from the Earth. They erupt when
too much pressure is formed.
Volcanoes are located all over the
world. It is important to study
volcanoes so that we can be safe.
According to Our Changing Earth,”
the explosion can give off
poisonous gas”. Volcanoes affect
people and animals.

Volcanoes are openings in the
Earth’s crust, usually mountains,
where lava comes out.
They are caused by pressure that
builds below the Earth and magma.
They erupt when too much pressure
is created and it makes magma that
then comes up through cracks in
the Earth.
Volcanoes are located all over
the world, but there is a “ring of
fire” that forms around the middle
part of the Earth.
It’s important to study volcanoes
so that we can stay safe, but also
learn new things from it. According
to Our Changing Earth, “the
explosions can give off poisonous
gas” but it also states that
“Volcanoes build up different types
of mountains.”
Volcanoes affect all living things

Who does this natural
disaster mostly affect?
Have you ever wondered about
natural disasters? I’ve always
wanted to know about volcanoes. A
volcano is an opening in the
Earth's crust from which molten
lava, rock fragments, ashes, dust,
and gases are ejected from below
the Earth's surface.
Volcanoes happen when molten
rock is created through pressure
from under the Earth. That
pressure then creates magma, or
hot molten rocks, dust, and gases.
The pressure pushes those things
through cracks and crevices of the
Earth. When enough pressure is
created, then an eruption happens.
Volcanoes usually happen over
many even hundreds of years pass
until enough pressure is built.
According to Our Changing Earth,
“Pressure makes magma rise up
through the cracks and rocks, like
toothpaste in a tube. Eventually the
magma burst through the surface
with lots of energy. Then the
magma is called lava.”
Volcanoes affect all living things
such as people, plants and animals.
The lava that spews out destroys
everything around it, homes and
nature.
I chose to study volcanoes
because I find them fascinating.
They are uncontrollable and all we
can do is stay out of their way.
