Dan and Neva Handley Newsletter, January, 2017 January, 2017 Greetings from Jerusalem, Israel. What a privilege to be serving in Jerusalem. There is never a dull moment here. We have been having Christmas for a long time. Christmas Advent began the first week of December and just last week the 18th of January was Armenian Christmas. We live in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. Each year on Christmas Eve Christ Church Jerusalem has a Christmas open house. This year over 2,500 people came through our gates and experienced Christmas with us. We had Christmas carolers at the front gate, Christmas cookies and soup, and in the Church itself nonstop Christmas Music. What a fun evening it was. Most of the people coming were from all over Israel. One of my job responsibilities is to plan special outings for the volunteers. Yesterday we went to Jericho. It is only a 30 minute drive from Jerusalem. Jericho is the oldest city in the world. We stood in the ancient ruins of Old Jericho and went to the Mount of Temptation. Many events took place in and around Jericho - from the conquest by Joshua to Zacheus the tax collector. We are always aware of the modern headlines that swirl around where we live. Just a few weeks ago there was another terror attack here in Jerusalem. Four Israeli young people were killed. Psalm 122:6 tells us “ Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem”. As I write this, the rain is falling. We love to see the rain come down. We live on the edge of a desert and do not get much rain. Rain is considered a blessing from God here in Israel. Already the desert is starting to turn green. What do you consider a blessing from God? Have you ever been lost? It is not a nice feeling. A lady wandered into our place a few weeks ago. She was lost and could not speak English. She could speak Spanish, so she was sent to me. She told me she lost the tour group she was with. She was from Peru, and had no idea where she was. She did remember the name of her hotel. I said, I doubted we could find her tour group but I could send her back to her hotel in a taxi. This is what Christ does for us. We are lost without Him in our lives. Thank you for your prayers for us. Pray for protection, and grace, and peace and wisdom as we live and serve in this place. We have daily contact with Jews and Arabs and pilgrims, and tourists, and people from down the street and around the world. Thank you again, Blessings and love from Jerusalem Dan and Neva Thank you for your prayers and support.
