NOURISH
Why does it matter what we eat?
1. Our brains need 5g of glucose/hour to operate each day
But we can’t process more than 30g coming in at once
2. Our liver takes extra sugar in our bodies and turns it into
triglycerides - which are then stored in your arteries and around
your organs as visceral fat.
3. Food is like a drug - food causes biochemical reactions that
either heal or harm you
How does your body use food?
#1 Carbs/Sugars
#2 Fats
#3 Proteins
Why cultivate this Habit?
When we cultivate the habit of Nourishing, we begin
to see food as the fuel that God provided for us to
thrive in this world. We recognize the need to be
mindful about our choices not only to care for our
bodies but also to say ‘God I see how you have made
me and I want to honor you by caring for my body in
the way you designed it to be cared for.’
All information here is adapted from information provided for
Introduction to Wellbeing by Dr. Kelly Gibas, Biokinetics Faculty.
Guiding verse for Habits of Body:
Rules that your body has regarding how to use energy
1. Body will burn sugar first - glucose is the first fuel substrate to be
used by the body. All extra sugar/glucose will be stored.
2. Fats will be burned second - However, can make your body burn
fat first by not eating sugar/carbs.
I Corinthians 10:31
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for
the glory of God.
As always, if any Habit causes too much dis-ease or distress, you are encouraged to seek the counsel of a trusted friend or counselor.
