don’t confuse importance in the plot with importance as a ‘moral force’.
Define ‘moral force’…. Connected with right and wrong behaviour.
You’ll need synonyms for ‘moral’ eg principle, lesson, ethical, honourable,
decent. Other synonyms for ‘morality’ = ethics, fairness, goodness, honour,
integrity, scruples, standards, virtue.
Evil is the correct noun!! It’s also the adjective. Eg He does evil deeds. He is
a force of evil. Synonyms for ‘evil’ = (adjectives)corrupt, demonic,
depraved, diabolical, malevolent, sinful, satanic, heinous, villainous, base.
(nouns) turpitude, depravity, iniquity etc
A question to consider: is revenge moral or immoral? In Shakespeare’s
Hamlet, revenge is seen to be important for Hamlet, but he finds it difficult.
Street girl, Helen’s revenge killing Pando’s gang – the cycle of evil- is she the
new evil equivalent of Pando.
(Jimmy escapes the cycle of evil with Alex at the end)
Mention as many details as you can about the streetkids eg stealing in the
alley, Helen talking about aboriginals and dying from colds, Helen’s
protection of Pete with the syringe attack, stealing $10,000 from Jimmy at
Bondi Beach, the ‘innocent kids’ in the candy shop, giving $100 notes to their
friends, getting the gun with the marked $100, tries to kill herself? By
murdering the gang (but not Jimmy), is she preventing the deaths of others
who might have been killed by the gang?
The film is full of swearing and slang, but your essays must be written in
formal, standard English!
