SOLUTION WITH EXPLANATION
SS
1. (Option 'C'). The sentence in the indirect speech would have also been right if it was MY CO
PASSENGER ASKED ME HOW LONG THE JOURNEY TOOK.
NOTE: Helping verb DID, though is not generally used in the past simple affirmative sentences, we can use it to give emphasize.

2. (Option 'A'). The mother said it cause of a strong feeling that arose inside her; and she expressed this feeling in admiration.
O
M
3. Option 'C'. THAT can usually be omitted after SAY and TELL + object; but it should be kept after other verbs. See that in the option 'A' the verb REITERATED is not following THAT.
.C
4. Option 'C'. Words like COMMAND, ORDER, ADVICE, etc are not followed by adverbs when the noun/pronoun is there after them. So the adverb STERNLY will appear before the word COMMAND. U
5. Option 'B'. He said that his mother cooked their breakfast.
M
In option 'A' see that the verb COMMANDED is followed by 'TO GOVIND'.
AM
FO
R
'He said that his mother cooks their breakfast' is absolutely wrong here. Hame kyaa pata ki report karnewaala kitna pahle ki baat report kar raha h. Ho sakta h 1 saal pahle ki, 2 saal pahle ki ya phir 10 saal pahle ki. To isliye ye possible h ki ab unhone khaana banaane ke liye koi cook rakh liya ho; ya phir kahne waale ki mother mar (unfortunately) hi gayi ho. So the verb in the reported speech (COOKS) need to be in a past tense. Therefore the correct one isHE SAID THAT HIS MOTHER COOKED THEIR BREAKFAST.
6. Changes of THIS & THESE (as adjectives) in direct speech:
THIS in time expressions becomes THAT if the reporting verb in the direct speech is in past EX
tense: He said, "He is coming THIS week." = He said that he was coming THAT week.
C
Otherwise THIS and THESE when used as simple adjectives usually change to THE: He said, "I bought THIS BOOK/THESE BOOKS for my brother." = He said that he had bought THE BOOK/BOOKS for his brother.
The word THIS in the indirect speech in the past tense is only possible if the thing (here chapter) SS
is with the reporter at the time of reporting. But the context is silent about that. So use of THIS is not correct in the indirect speech here.
Therefore correct conversion of the above into the indirect speech will be: He asked his teacher whether he needed to read the chapter. At the most you can say: He asked his teacher whether he needed to read that chapter.

7. Option 'A'. MUST here is a helping verb for both the verbs GO and REMAIN; remember if the same helping verb is needed for two or more verbs of a subject it's not repeated. And after modal like MUST there is always the first form of any verb or any part of it, so REMAIN won't get any change . So 'A' is M
correct.
.C
O
8. Option 'D' is correct. SUPPOSE I/WE/YOU +PRESENT or PAST TENSE is a suggestion; never a proposal or advice. When something in the direct speech is reported by SUGGEST + THATCLAUSE the verb in the indirect speech must follow THAT.
M
9. Sunita says that she has seen the film before.
R
U
The tense of the verb in the direct speech i.e. HAVE SEEN won't change as the reporting verb (here SAYS) is in the present tense.
AM
11. Both are equally correct.
FO
10. Of course there is no flaw in the sentence. Your doubt maybe over the use of CLOSED. Of course here it's in the simple past tense, but remember the simple past tense can be used for a ONE TIME ACTION as well as for a HABITUAL/REPEATED ACTION.
EX
NOTE: TOMORROW changes to THE NEXT DAY or THE FOLLOWING DAY.
NEXT DAY changes to THE FOLLOWING DAY.
C
12. Option 'D' is correct. Wah bhagwaan ko jor jor se pukaar karke kah rahaa hai ki wo usko itni shakti de ki wah phir kabhi chori na karey. Actually he is determined here. RESOLVE = determination. Here HEAVEN =God. Actually the person has decided not to steal again. When he is saying that HELP ME HEAVEN means wo bhagwaan ko saakshi banaana chaahta aur kahna chaahta h ki agar uske mun SS
mein fir kabhi chori karne ki ichchha uthhe to wo aaye aur usko shakti de. CALL UPON = to ask or demand that somebody do something.
13. Option 'B'. The person in this sentence did two actions (exclaim and vomit) simultaneously. As both the actions are simultaneous, both will be in past simple here; so VOMITED won't change in HAD VOMITED. 'B' is correct therefore.

14.Option 'B' is correct. Either you should use THATclause after PRESUME or it should be followed by the infinitive TO BE. So 'C' agar correct hota to ye aise hota: He said that he presumed me TO BE M
one of Pinkerton's men.
.C
O
15. Option 'C' is right. The sentence in the reported speech is a universal truth, so its change won't change.
M
16. Siddharth asked Ajay how he had learnt to drive a car.
U
17. LET'S usually expresses a suggestion and is reported by SUGGEST in indirect speech; e.g.
R
He said, ”Let’s leave the case at the station.” could be reported in two ways mainly: SUGGESTED + GERUND or SUGGESTED + THAT CLAUSE; see here how:
FO
a) He suggested leaving the case at the station. or
b) He suggested that they/we should leave the case at the station.
AM
So appropriate reporting of the given sentence in the indirect speech is:
EX
She suggested going to the cafe.
OR
She suggested that they/we should go to the cafe.
NOTE: LET's/LET US sometimes expresses a call to action. It is then usually reported by URGE/ADVISE + OBJECT + INFINITIVE"; e.g.
SS
C
DIRECT: The strike leader said, "Let's show the bosses that we are united."
INDIRECT: The strike leader URGED the workers to show the bosses that they were united.
18. We prayed to Lord to save the earth from evil.
19. I wished my friend a good morning and suggested going for a picnic that day.

I wished my friend a good morning and suggested that we should go for a picnic that day.
M
20. She requested Rita to help her with her homework.
O
21. Both 'A' and 'B' are incorrect. In the main sentence it is 'then we shall see'. Whom to see? None! Here SEE means TO FIND OUT = to find out something by looking, asking or waiting. So correct .C
change of narration should be:
U
M
MARY TOLD ROBERT THAT THEY WOULD LOOK INTO THE MATTER AFTER HE HAD COME.
OR
MARY TOLD ROBERT THAT THEY WOULD SEE AFTER HE HAD COME.
FO
R
22. Option 'A'. The verb 'tell' unlike 'say' is not followed by 'to' in an active structure. Therefore GOVIND TOLD MOHIT NOT TO COME THERE AGAIN OR HE WOULD GET A BEATING is correct.
AM
23. Option 'B'. Lord Yama requested the princess not to follow her dead husband.
It's a request. REQUEST = the action of asking something formally and politely.
C
EX
24. When in passive TOLD TO is correct; but in active TOLD is not followed by TO. So I SAID TO MOHAN is correct in the direct speech & I TOLD MOHAN is correct in the indirect speech.
25. The boy applauded him, saying that he had done well.
SS
APPLAUD can be both a transitive verb as well as intransitive. But here it's transitive as THE BOY (subject of the reporting clause) is applauding somebody. Being such it will be followed by HIM/THEM/ME/US, etc as you are seeing in the sentence in the indirect speech above.
APPLAUD=To express praise for sb/sth because you approve of them or it. BRAVO = is used in exclamations and say it at the end of something that we enjoy or like.
