Who is the WFR For?
The WFR is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who
wants an intermediate level of medical training for extended trips with family,
friends, and outdoor groups. It also meets the ACA and BSA guidelines.
What is taught?
This WFR is a minimum of 72 hours long and focuses on the basic skills of:
Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental
Emergencies, Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies.
Text Book
Students will receive the SOLO WFR Text book on day 1. This is a full color
textbook that covers the curriculum for the WFR course. The book is
illustrated with photos, drawing and diagrams designed to make learning easy.
Is there an exam?
Yes. There is ongoing evaluation of practical skills, and there are written
assessments throughout the course and a Final Exam at the end.
Do I get certified?
Yes. Upon passing the exam and practical skill assessment you will receive a
SOLO WFR certification, which is good for three years.
How do I recertify?
You may take either a 2-day WFR Refresher Course or a 2-day WFA course.
Does the WFR count as continuing education?
The WFR typically counts as continuing education credits, although it may depend on what
certification you have. Street EMTs who take the WFR course may become certified as
Wilderness EMTs. Within the first year of completing a SOLO WFR, students may enroll in
a SOLO WEMT Part II Module (the last two weeks of a WEMT course) to get their WEMT
certification (they must pass practical and written EMT exams). Call 603-447-6711 for
further information.
