Current Unit of Inquiry
Central Idea: Celebrations and traditions are
expressions of shared beliefs and values
Lines of Inquiry:


Features of traditions and celebrations
How and why people celebrate around the
world
 Similarities and differences between various
celebrations
Core Concepts: Form and Perspective
Skill Focus: Social Skills
Learner Profile: Inquirer and Communicator

Final Assessment:
This unit will be integrated throughout our
curriculum. Students will have the opportunity
to conduct research into the many different
celebrations and traditions around the world,
how people celebrate and the many reasons
why celebrations occur.
Students will research an Event or Celebration
with a partner and create a display to showcase
to the level. Some students may present an
advertising campaign, create persuasive texts,
research and draw traditional dress and more.
English sessions will include Language
Convention activities, Spelling and Grammar, and
Reading, Writing and Listening Skills. Students
will continue with the C.A.R.S. (Comprehensive
Assessment of Reading Strategies) to assess their
use of strategies when reading.
Students will develop their speaking and listening
skills through readers’ theater activities based on
celebrations as well as their celebration
showcase at the end of the unit.
MATH
We have differentiated each Math session based
on pre-test results. The benefit being that each
and every Math lesson will be able to specifically
target their needs. A pre and posttest will be
conducted at the beginning and end of each
Math unit.
Math sessions for the next few weeks will cover
statistics, probability and angles.
Students will conduct surveys about the different
ways we celebrate at home and in the class, and
graph the findings.
We will continue to have weekly Math Mastery
classes on a Monday where students will be
taught topics at their point of need based on our
Zone of Proximal Development analysis.

day. Hats will also be required every day for the
remainder of the term.
Specialists will now be on a Friday morning until
lunch time. Students will no longer need to wear
sports uniform on a Friday.
HOMEWORK AND DIARIES
As we are coming to the end of the year there are
many important dates and information for
students to remember so it is vital that every
student remember to bring in their diary on a daily
basis.
Homework provides every student with the
chance to consolidate what they have been
learning in the classroom and sets up positive
learning habits for the future. If you notice your
child is having difficulties completing their
homework in a timely manner, then you can assist
by scheduling times throughout the week so that
it is not left to the last minute. As per our
homework policy, if any student in level 3 forgets
to complete their homework, there are a series of
consequences. If your child has lost the sheet,
they can ask the teacher for a replacement or
access the tasks on Google Classroom.
