Usually refers to the hardware used for operators and technicians to gain access to the control system, allowing them to set variables, start and stop motors and functions, and view and respond to alarms. The Operator Interface software application is installed on the HMI. • InduSoft The software that runs the HMI application. • Ethernet The commonly used communication format for transferring data between devices, Controllers, computers, and operator interfaces. 2 File Locations and Types • InduSoft Files Location is your choice. This is a folder with subfolders and many files. The main application file has the extension *.APP. 3 Laptop or PC Network Configuration To connect to the SoftPLC processor, you must establish an Ethernet connection with the processor via the Ethernet hub inside the drive system cabinet. Your programming PC or laptop must be set up to establish a static TCP/IP address before it can communicate with the SoftPLC or the HMI. Following are general instructions for network configuration; your operating system may look somewhat different. 1. Open the Network properties for your laptop. (Usually by going to START > SETTINGS > NETWORK CONNECTIONS > Local Area Connection). 2. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button. 3. On the next dialog box, click the check box for “Use The Following IP Address”. 4. Enter your laptop’s IP address (be careful not to set it to the IP address of either the SoftPLC or the HMI). 5. Enter 255.255.255.0 for the Subnet Mask. 6. Click OK and Close as necessary to close out all dialog boxes. 12000 NE 60th Way ● Vancouver, WA 98682 ● Voice (360) 253-4810 ● Fax (360) 253-4818 www.appliedmotionsystems.com Connect a straight through (standard) Ethernet cable to the blue Ethernet hub in the panel. To verify that your IP address has been properly established, open a DOS window (Command Prompt) and “ping” your laptop’s IP address (for example, type in Ping 10.0.0.110). You should get replies. This is your PC replying on your network. Next ping the SoftPLC and the HMI. (Typically these IP addresses end in “101” for the SoftPLC and “102” for the HMI). You should get replies from both processors. Note, on some operating systems, it may be necessary to reboot the PC to establish the new IP address. Note, with no network cable connected, you can still verify that your network card works by pinging 127.0.0.1 which is the default loop back IP address for the computer. You can also issue the IPCONFIG command in a command prompt window which will report back what you current IP address and configuration is set to. 4 InduSoft Quick Reference When necessary, updated programs can be transferred to the Operator Interface using a program called InduSoft Web Studio. Once installed from its CD, InduSoft Web Studio can be used in DEMO mode to connect with the Operator Interface via Ethernet. Use the following procedure to successfully update the screen software: 4.1 Procedure 1. Connect a straight-through (usually Blue or Gray) Ethernet patch cable between a laptop and one of the empty ports on the light blue Ethernet hub in the Genesys drive cabinet. The hub is located at the top of the sub panel on the left-hand side of the cabinet. Make sure not to use a “cross over” type (usually Red) Ethernet cable. When properly connected, you should see a link LED light up on the hub corresponding to the port you used. See Laptop or PC Network Configuration above for instructions on setting up and verifying the ethernet connection. 2. Open InduSoft Web Studio. Typically it is located under START > PROGRAMS > InduSoft Web Studio. When Indusoft Web Studio is installed, it includes a 40-hour trial period after which it only allows operation in DEMO mode (until it is licensed). However, updated Operator Interface applications can be downloaded to the HMI unit in either case. 3. Once in InduSoft, open the application you wish to transfer to the Operator Interface. Select FILE > OPEN PROJECT and then navigate to the location on the computer where the application to be downloaded is located. Application files are of the type “*.app”. Select PROJECT > EXECUTION ENVIRONMENT… to bring up a configuration window. Under the “Target” tab, select “Network IP:” as the Target Station, and enter in the IP address of the HMI (for example, 10.0.0.102). Next press the CONNECT button to open the Ethernet communications. When successfully established, the Status will say “Connected to ….”. 5. Now that your computer is talking with the Operator Interface you can transfer your application. Switch to the “Application” tab of the same Execution Environment window. It is recommended that you first stop the currently running application on the Operator Interface so that no conflicts occur during the download. To do this, click the STOP button. Now download the application by pressing the SEND TO TARGET button. Make sure that the ONLY NEWER FILES box is not checked. The transfer process may take several minutes to complete. After the Operator Interface program starts and is operational, disconnect the Ethernet communications between the laptop and Operator Interface by switching back to the “Target” tab of the Execution Environment window and pressing the DISCONNECT button then Close the dialog box.
