April 2017
Annual General Meeting - This will be
held on the 20th May in the clubhouse
commencing at 10.00 am
Special General Meeting - This will be
held in the clubhouse on the 20th May
commencing at 9.45am. The purpose is to
consider alterations to the Constitution as
recommended by the Board.
Men's Winter Series Bowls - Starts April
29th and finishes the last Saturday in
August. 12.00 for 12.30 start. Cost $7 pp
with cash prizes each day, Major prizes to
the winning teams will be presented at
the end of the season.
As is normal at this time of the year there
is a number of bowlers taking leave to
holiday on the mainland, consequently we
do need some more players to put their
names on the lists that is on the notice
board to fill in as full and reserve players
for this upcoming series.
Proudly sponsored by Evan Riseley,
Petrusma Properties, Lindisfarne
Bowls South - A couple of items of
interest that come up at the recent
Delegates Meeting held at Rosny Park
include a) That Women's Championships
that have normally been held on
Wednesdays and Fridays will in 2017-2018
be played on Sundays.
b) Conditions of play 4.5 Selection
Guide lines. Which specify restrictions of
where bowlers are permitted to play in
various levels of the pennant games will
remain in place again in 2017-2018.
c) There is a move by some clubs
to try and reinstate 25 ends of play for
Premier, Div. 1 and Div. 2. Pennant. It was
resolved to survey all clubs to ascertain if
there is sufficient support or whether we
all stay with the current 21 ends.
d) Craig Triffett (Bumpy) asked
why New Norfolk was not allocated any
finals this season given that many bowlers
believed that New Norfolk's greens were
the best in the South of the state. The
mumbled and beat about the bush
answers that dribbled forth from the BTS
reps did set the scene for some spirited
and (if you know Bumpy) meaningful
discussions.
e) Friday Night Super Pairs which
was won by Bucks last season looks like it
will be a goer again next season but with
possibly a few modifications.
It is good to see that BTS is being
proactive in regards to these events and
trying something a little bit different.
Jacks - Again it has been brought to the
Boards attention that the evaporation
rate of our jacks has reached plague
proportions. We have lost over 20 again
this season. If you have inadvertently put
one of our jacks in your bowls bag we
would appreciate its return.
Club Polo Shirts and Jackets - We do have
some still in stock and we will be looking
to place another order in the near future.
Please see Peter Hyland or any board
member to place an order.
Bowls Australia News - There is an
interesting article in the B A Newsletter
this month entitled " St. Helens Bowls
Club Meeting the Challenges". Just go to
the Bowls Australia website and click on
"News". Well worth a read.
Rickyleaks - Some interesting comments
and rumors about player movements in
the South of the State. Just go to the
Bowls South Face book page, scroll down
until you come across Rick Ormerod
"rickyleaks". Well worth a read.
President Handicap Pairs - Another very
successful day of bowls was held on the
1st April last. Results were 1st prize ($200)
Peter & Elaine Hyland, 2nd prize ($100)
Paul Lofts & Stuart Seabrook, 3rd prize
($50) Mike Baker & Bruce MacKenlay.
As sponsor of this event I must admit that
I was bit disappointed at the lack of
interest shown by the senior members of
our club, only three out of a total of 32
senior players from our Saturday Pennant
teams entered this event?
This event, the $2000 Triples and other
club events are put on for your benefit
and enjoyment, if this is not the type of
event you want then please come forward
and tell us what you want? All members
should be aware that sponsors expect that
the events they are involved with and
sponsor to be professionally organized
and fully supported.
Friday Social Triples - It is pleasing to see
that the numbers have increased
substantially over the past few weeks.
However there is still room for another
couple of teams and individual entries are
always welcome. Good prizes, nibbles
after the game. 11.30 for 12.00 start.
Please put your name or team on the list
that is under the main notice board.
Wednesday Men's Social Triples - This is
proving a very popular event, last week
we had 40 names on the sheets to play. It
might pay to get you names on the sheets
early to ensure you are in the count. Just
$7.00 includes nibbles after the game and
also the chance to share in our jackpot.
Entertainment book - The club has
undertaken to sell these books again this
year as a fund raising exercise, The club
benefits from commissions received on all
sales. These books not only contain
special deals for restaurants and retail
outlets, they also include gift certificates
which effectively gives you 5% discount on
purchases at Coles, Woolworths, BWS and
so on. At just $65 they are excellent
value. Please see Gordon and have your
name put on the list in the clubhouse
Club Sponsors - Please support them so
that they will continue to support us.
