Stoichiometry Unit Objectives

Chemistry Unit Objectives - Stoichiometry
Chapter 9- Stoichiometry
Section 9.1 – Introduction to Stoichiometry
• Define stoichiometry.
• Distinguish between composition stoichiometry and reaction stoichiometry.
• Define mole ratio and identify the mole ratio for any two substances in a chemical reaction.
• List and describe the four types of reaction-stoichiometry calculations.
Section 9.2 – Ideal Stoichiometric Calculations
• Review procedures for balancing equations as a prelude to solving reaction-stoichiometry
problems.
• Calculate masses/moles of products and/or reactants in mass-mass, mole-mole, mole-mass, and
mass-mole reaction-stoichiometry problems.
Section 9.3 – Limiting Reactants and Percent Yield
• Define limiting reactant and excess reactant.
• Define and utilize a method for calculating limiting reactant.
• Calculate the mass or moles of products, given moles/masses of reactants.
• Define theoretical yield, actual yield and percent yield.
• Calculate percent yield, given actual yield and quantities of reactants.
