SINGER® Flower Tote This summer tote with its large, three-dimensional flower detail really makes a statement! Cut 11 pairs of petals: 4 pairs from Template A, 7 pairs from Template B 2. Apply the fusible interfacing to each cut outer fabric piece, following interfacing manufacturer’s recommendations. 3. Thread the top of the machine and bobbin with all purpose thread. 4. Sew one pair of petals, right sides together, around the curved edge using a ¼” seam allowance. Turn right side out and press. Repeat with each remaining pair of petals. 5. Thread the top of the machine with 30wt cotton thread and bobbinfil in the bobbin. 6. Attach the Cording Foot to the machine and thread foot with one strand of pearl cotton into the center groove of the foot. 7. Set the machine for a Zig-Zag stitch, width at 3.0 and length at 2.0, then sew around the curved edge of each petal as close to the finished edge as possible. 8. Remove the Cording Foot and attach the General Purpose Foot to the machine. 9. Double fold the length of the 2” x WOF piece of linen so that the raw edges are encased and the width of the pressed strip measures ½”. Topstitch the strip close to each long side to finish. Cut eight 3” pieces from the strip. 10. Place one wooden handle on the wrong side of one outer bag section with the half way point of the handle aligned with the raw edge of the fabric. Trace the handle onto the interfacing. Add ½” seam allowance above the traced line. Cut out a semi-circle section along the drawn seam allowance line. Use this template to cut out a semi-circle section from the upper center of each bag lining and remaining outer bag section. 2 11. Sew the main bag sections right sides together along the side and bag bottom seam. Repeat with bag lining but leave a 5” opening centered in the side seam. 12. Cut a 1½” square from the lower corners of the outer bag and bag lining. 13. Open each cut corner and sew a gusset with a ½” seam allowance to box the lower corners of the bag and bag lining. 14. Mark the wrong side of the each lining section with four of the ¾” sections evenly spaced within the curved section. 3 15. Turn the outer bag right side out and sew the upper edges of the bag and bag lining right sides together, following the curved shape and keep the marked ¾” sections in the curved sections free from any stitching. Trim and clip the curved section. Turn the bag right side out through the opening in the lining. 16. Attach the bag handle to the bag. Place four of the 3” strap pieces around each bag handle and tuck raw ends into the ¾” openings in the curved section of the bag. Topstitch the upper edge of the bag, catching the loops in the seam as you sew. 17. Arrange 7 petals on the bag front and hand stitch in place. 4 18. Arrange the remaining 3-4 petals on top of the stitched petals and hand sew in place. 19. Cover the button with a scrap of the bag fabric. Hand-sew the button to the center of the flower, covering the raw edges of the center group of petals. 20. Hold the bag upright and hand tack any petals that fall away from the bag, to the bag. 21. Sew the opening in the lining closed with hand stitches or by topstitching the opening closed by machine. 5 SINGER, the Cameo “S” Design and SINGER is SEWING MADE EASY are exclusive trademarks of The Singer Company Limited S.à r.l. or its Affiliates.© The Singer Company Limited S.à r.l. or its Affiliates.
