Regular Members Meeting
MINUTES
Call to Order: A regular member’s meeting of the Alpha Psi Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa
was held in the Student Lounge on November 1, 2016. The meeting convened at 3:06 by
Bethany Hammons, Alpha Psi Zeta Secretary.
Members in attendance: Katie Desmond, Kristina Smith, Christopher Clements, Bethany
Hammons, Alice Thurber, Amy Trenner, Helen Greathouse.

Discussion Items
1. Treasurer’s Report (Alaya Haney)
Beginning balance, FRC account: $4,190.47
Beginning balance, Foundation account: $3,313.49
2. President’s Report
Matt Dougan has resigned as Alpha Psi Zeta president. We thank Matt for his service
and hope he will remain an active member.
As a chapter, we need to start discussing our goals and ideas for the Spring Semester.
Chris Clements is working on creating a chapter crest. Members present at the meeting
reviewed his draft.
Chris Clements will be running for an international Phi Theta Kappa office.
3. Nominations for Vice President of Chapter Records and President
Bethany Hammons and Christopher Clements were nominated for President.
Haley Housel was nominated for Vice President of Chapter Records.
4. Election of Vice President of Chapter Records and President
- Bethany was elected President by a majority vote.

Haley was elected Vice President of Chapter Records by a unanimous vote.

Updates from Advisor (Katie Desmond)
Phi Theta Kappa’s membership fee has increased. Our chapter’s fee is now $85. Katie
discussed the possibility of reducing the portion that our chapter receives to $10 rather
than $15 to make it more affordable for incoming members.
Katie has received the package for Regional and Hallmark awards; we should start
working on this soon.
The Regional Conference will be on March 14th in Burlingame, CA.

6. Honors in Action (Bethany Hammons)
- The Honors in Action project, with the help of Pol/Soc 160, is coming along well.
- We will hold a meeting soon for members with an interest in helping as our project
progresses.
7. Induction (Chris Clements)
- Chris has secured cake and other refreshments for the Induction Ceremony.
- He has asked Karen Pierson to be the honored speaker at this semester’s induction.
8. College Project (Bethany Hammons)
- Kristina had received the donated chalk board paint and chalk.
- Bethany is planning to come in over the break to do the painting, and would appreciate
the help of a few members.
9. Fundraising (Kristina Smith)
Kristina will be meeting with Rafael soon to discuss designs for our chapter t-shirts.
She also discussed making and selling stickers that display our new chapter crest.
10. Service Committee (Alice Thurber)
- Alice announced that the Winter Coat Drive is now up and running.
- The Pasta Pantry is now open as well, and accepting donations.
11. Report on Leadership Conference (Chris Clements)
- Chris said that the Leadership Conference was an excellent experience. He had the
opportunity to run a public speaking break-out session, and made valuable connection
with the President of Regionals and the International President.
- After attending this conference, he feels that we should be less quiet as a chapter, and
have a greater presence on campus.
12. Discussion of 5-star Competitive Edge Program (Chris Clements)
- The 5-star Competitive Edge Program is an online resource member can use to better
develop valuable soft skills. It is a program that allows members to work at their own
pace, and we encourage all interested members to participate.
