Home Instead presents surprise gift
to Wesley Manor
esley Manor has always valued its
relationship with Home Instead Senior Care.
And so, when we learned that Home Instead
Senior Care had selected Wesley Manor as the
recipient of a $16,000 gift, we wanted to share the good news
in a very special way!
We immediately began planning a surprise
celebration for the afternoon of May 21 to
make the BIG announcement. Our Board of
Directors, staff, assisted living and patio home
residents were invited to join us.
Home Instead President Becky Beanblossom
presented the check to President Jerry Hoganson
saying, “We are so pleased to be gifting $16,000 to Wesley
Manor Retirement Community! It is an amazing organization
that has always shown tremendous compassion, while serving
both their residents and the community. It is Wesley Manor’s
commitment to charitable care that really sets Wesley Manor
apart from other long-term care facilities. We know that,
because of Wesley Manor’s commitment to charitable care, they
can often use help from others in funding major projects.”
This wonderful gift came with no strings and could be used
where most needed. With Home Instead’s approval, their gift
will be used to help underwrite the costs of a new cooling tower
to replace our original cooling tower that has served Wesley
Manor for 53 years!
People ask how Wesley Manor is associated with Home
Instead Senior Care. The excellent Home Instead staff often
provides services on a contracted, as-needed basis for patio

home and assisted living residents when our residents require
services that Wesley Manor cannot provide due to state
guidelines. The guidelines place some limits on the kinds of
services we can offer to our older adults in our independent and
assisted living neighborhoods.
“Home Instead Senior Care has been a wonderful partner
with Wesley Manor, providing excellent care to our residents,”
said Jerry Hoganson, President of Wesley Manor. “It is
heartwarming to receive their $16,000 gift which will be used to
greatly enhance the comfort of our Assisted Living residents.”
We here at Wesley Manor are deeply grateful to our friends
at Home Instead Senior Care’s Louisville Office and are truly
honored to receive their generous gift. THANK YOU! Y
Creative recycling
Patio Homes resident puts scrap materials to good use
Elmo Jeffries enjoyed a 30-year career as a mechanic and service manager at the former Summers and
Hermann Ford dealership in Louisville. While the skills he used on the job may have encouraged him in
building toy cars, his hobby started at a much younger age. As early as age 10, he began carving toy horses
and made a “Chuck-A-Luck” (a scooter-type of toy) in his father’s woodworking shop.
What’s unique about Elmo’s toys is he made them all using recycled material. He was “repurposing”
before that term even became popular. The tongues of old leather shoes were transformed into saddles

Arts & Crafts Show
The 2nd Annual Okolona Arts & Crafts Show,
hosted at Wesley Manor, was a success again this year!
Fifteen exhibitors were featured, many who were
Wesley Manor residents. Nearly all exhibitors sold
some of their works, with a steady flow of visitors all
afternoon. Several folks stopped by while attending
the Dedication Ceremony in the chapel. Y

they were first married.
“For the model cars, I would start by making body molds from wood
