Yarn Letters
With this center, youngsters match letters to spell their
names. Color and cut out a copy of the person pattern
on page 13 and laminate the cutout for durability. Place
the cutout, a supply of clothespins labeled with letters,
and a class set of name cards at a center. A child finds
her name card to use as a reference. Then she clips
clothespins to the top of the cutout to spell her name. If
desired, she repeats the process with other name cards.

Play Dough Center
Youngsters practice forming the letters in their
names with this activity. Write each child’s name
in large letters on a sheet of construction paper.
Then laminate the resulting name mats. Place
the mats and a variety of colorful play dough at
the center. A child visits the center and rolls play
dough into long ropes. Then he places the ropes
on his name mat to form his name.
