Organising Authority: Port Dalrymple Yacht Club 1. General Race Instructions 1.1 Rules The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing as well as the rules and regulations as set down by the Australian Cycling Federation in conjunction with all traffic laws. Port Dalrymple Yacht Club may amend any detail on this Sailing Instructions. Amendments will be published on the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club website www.pdyc.yachting.org.au and read out at the briefing. Athletes must obey all traffic laws and instructions provided by Marshalls 1.2 Briefing A briefing for all team members will begin at 1000 at the PDYC Clubrooms on Saturday the 12th November, 2016. 1.3 Warning Signals All Divisions Warning Signal (Code Flag ‘G’) - 1125 Preparatory Signal - 1126 One Minute – 1129 Start – 1130 1.4 Time Limit 1800 hours to finish all sailing and athletics legs 1.5 Shorten Course Code flag ‘S’ used at discretion of Race Committee. This will at the PDYC start/finish line. If the wind has died in the last sailing leg, the race committee may cancel the last sailing leg only and use the completed race times only. 1.6 Postponement ‘AP’ flag used at discretion of Race Committee. 1.7 Communication Race Committee will monitor VHF 16 and 77. Broadcasts over VHF 77 may be made to assist in alteration of sailing courses. However flag signals and YA rules will take precedence. VHF must be considered ‘informative’ only. 1.8 Scoring System Finishing positions will be awarded based upon the lowest corrected sailing times combined for sailing leg 1, 2 and 3 and corrected time running leg and corrected time for cycling leg. Teams failing to finish any 5 legs are not eligible to score for the overall result. 1.9 Protests Protests to be lodged within 20 minutes of the last team finishing in writing at the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club, hand delivered to the RO. 1.10 Safety YA Category 7 PFD required to be worn for yachts under 6 metres or not carrying lifelines. Athletes must wear PFD’s at all times while being transferred in tenders to and from race yachts. PFD’s will be provided in the tenders. 1.11 Disclaimer of Liability Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the event. 1.12 Prizes & Presentation A Presentation will be made at the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club approximately 45min after the last yacht has finished on Saturday evening. Prizes for elapsed and handicap results will be given out. PDYC will also be providing a BBQ during the presentation. We hope you will bring your team and family along. 2. Sailing Legs NOTE: GREEN PILE NORTH EAST OF INSPECTION HEAD MUST BE PASSED ON THE CHANNEL SIDE IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. Boats are free to use PD jetty or pontoons but if crowded please use tender provided to avoid congestion. Maximum of 30 minutes is provided to disembark runner and restart sailing Leg 2. Please keep clear of yachts racing while transferring athletes. 2.2 Sailing Leg 2 Note: Yachts must re-start within 30 minutes of finishing leg 1. Running Leg 3.1 Running Course – Distance 14.4km, course marked by blue arrows • • • • • • • • • Start at carpark above PDYC on opposite side of road, cross road at marshalls request Remain on the right hand side of the road Run south along West Tamar Highway Turn right on Kelly’s Lookout Rd Turn right onto Green’s Beach Rd Run north along Green’s Beach Rd Turn right onto West Arm Rd Continue East on West Arm Rd Finish at car park above PDYC Note – Runners must be aboard yacht for Sailing Legs 1, 3 and 4 to qualify. 3.2 Safety Keep to Right hand side of road unless otherwise stated. The roads will not be closed so be aware of traffic and obey all road rules 3.3 Penalty Runners will be penalised by 15% on elapsed time if they achieve a run time which is 10 percent per kilometre faster than the time stated on their entry forms. 3.4 Runner Identification Please register your yacht name with the Starting Marshall prior to starting your run and register your yacht name with the Finishing Marshall after crossing the finish line. You will need to use your yacht name as the team name. It is the athlete’s responsibility to ensure their run time has been identified correctly. 3.5 Scoring Scoring will be based upon elapsed time multiplied by a handicap correction factor to give a corrected overall run time. 4. Cycling Leg 4.1 Cycling Course Distance 40km, course marked by red arrows • • • • • • • • • • • Collect bikes from storage shed and either ride South along Kemps parade and north along West Tamar Highway to start or carry your bike up the stairs at the Northern end of the club. Starting between orange witches hats opposite car park above PDYC, cross rd at marshall’s request Ride north along West Tamar Highway/West Arm Rd Turn right onto Greens Beach Rd Continue North along Greens Beach Rd Turn (180deg) at witches hat at wooden shelter near public toilets at Green Beach Continue south along Greens Beach Rd Turn left just before Beaconsfield onto Kelly’s Lookout Rd Turn left onto West Tamar Highway Finish will be a line adjacent to carpark above PDYC Please slow down, turn around and casually ride left onto Kemps parade. Note: Cyclist must be aboard the yacht for sailing legs 1. 2 and 4 Note: Bikes can be stored in the Sabot shed (the two large roller doors on the bottom level of the YC) 4.2 Drafting Non Drafting – 7 metres minimum space required between cyclists. A 15 second window exists to overtake cyclist ahead of you. A 5 minute penalty will be applied per breach 4.3 Penalty Cyclists will be penalised by 10% if they achieve a cycling time which is 5 percent per kilometre faster than the time stated on their entry forms. 4.4 Cyclist Identification Please register your yacht name with the Starting Marshall prior to starting your cycling leg and register your yacht name with the Finishing Marshall after crossing the finish line. Note: take caution at the 180 deg turn at Greens Beach Rd, you will need to cross traffic to make turn Note: take extreme caution at descent into yacht club on Northern Street as very steep, narrow and prone to gravel. 4.6 Scoring Scoring will be based upon elapsed time multiplied by a handicap correction factor to give a corrected overall cycling time.
