Read the following passage and answer the questions below:-
Ammonia is a strong smelling , gaseous compound of one part
nitrogen and three of hydrogen (NH3) . It was discovered and first
prepared by an English chemist and clergyman
Called Joseph Priestly in 1774.
Several ammonium compounds are found in the nature mostly
produced from decaying plants and animals, but small quantities are
found in the air, the sea and the soil Ammonia is poisonous to animal,
Ammonia is quickly converted into harmless substance, urea and
removed from the system in the urine . Ammonia is produced
commercially by a process called the Harber process. In this process,
nitrogen and hydrogen are combined at high temperature and pressure
with aid of a catalyst – a substance which speeds up the mixing of the
two gases . Ammonia is very soluble in water. It reacts with water to
form ammonium hydroxide ( strong alkalis) which can burn your skin.
