Dear Martin County resident,
At Waste Management, green is more than just the color of
our trucks and containers. It is a daily reminder to our over
50,000 employees across North America of the important
role each of us plays as stewards of the environment.
Waste Management has a deep commitment to making a
difference for the environment, for communities and for
people.
Save Our Earth
As the leading provider of comprehensive waste
management, recycling and environmental services in North
America, Waste Management serves municipal, commercial,
industrial and residential customers throughout the United
States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Waste Management serves more
than 20 million residential and commercial customers through its network
of collection operations, transfer stations, landfill disposal sites, waste-toenergy plants, recycling facilities, and other related services.
Whether you are a longtime resident or a newcomer to the area, this
residential guide to solid waste collection in Martin County includes important
information to help you be a good steward of our environment. By following
these simple, environmental guidelines for garbage collection, recycling,
vegetative waste and bulk pickups, you can help Martin County stay clean
and green.

began in the 1970’s. It has been our privilege to serve you and we hope you
find this guide helpful.

GARBAGE COLLECTION
GARBAGE
COLLECTION IS
TWICE A WEEK !
Your twice-a-week collection is a level of
environmental service that many communities
are not offered. Keeping our community clean and beautiful is part of
what makes Martin County a great place to live, work, and play. That’s
why it is important to take advantage of our many environmental services.
Please refer to the Martin County map insert to
check your collection schedule
for garbage and yard waste.
Set out time is 7:00 a.m., or the night before is okay, too. Please remove cans and bins
from the curb after collection. You can set out as many 32-gallon cans (with lids) or plastic
(tied tops) bags as needed. Each can or bag can weigh up to fifty (50) pounds. Be sure to
check that lids and ties are securely on containers. This helps prevents domestic and wild
animals from tearing bags and upsetting containers which can create litter problems and
make waste pickup more difficult.

Single Stream Recycling
Beginning in October 2007, a NEW and convenient way to recycle is being offered to Martin
County residents. “Single-stream” recycling lets you commingle all of
your acceptable materials together in one bin. There is no longer any
need to separate recyclable paper from plastics, glass, aluminum or
steel containers. The convenience of Single-stream recycling makes
it easier than ever for residents to participate. Through the program
we can recover up to 30 percent more recyclable
RECYCLING IS materials which prevents these items from
ending up in a landfill.
ONCE A WEEK
FROM YOUR
CURBSIDE ON ONE
OF YOUR REGULAR
COLLECTION DAYS
Single-stream also allows us to operate
our fleet more efficiently, cuts down on the number of
specialized recycling collection vehicles and reduces the energy
required during the collection of the material.
“Think globally, act locally.” As a Martin County resident,
one simple way you can do your part to help protect and
preserve our finite natural resources is by recycling. Many of the
products we purchase and use on a daily basis can find new
life by being recycled into new materials.
RECYCLABLE ITEMS
Below is a list of acceptable materials as well as materials that should not be recycled
