PRESIDENT’S CORNER
By Beth Rodriguez
Spring is approaching! Now is the time everyone begins to
plan for “projects” for the yard and home. As I talked about
last month, please make filling out the Exterior Project
Request Form part of your planning process. You will find a
copy in this newsletter, on our website or at the office. Lori or
Tina will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
Spring is also the time that everyone is outdoors more.
Going outdoors is so nice in pleasant weather and the
moderate exercise is good for our health. A win-win good for
our health and fun! When you go out for a walk or to play on
our community’s fields please consider taking a small bag
with you and pick up any trash you may see and put it into any
trash can at the tot lots or at the parking lot for the office/pool
or at the softball field. Imagine how much less litter will be in
our community if everyone picked up 1 small bag of litter
every 2 to 7 days. Teens in need of community service hours
should consider talking to Lori about picking up litter in the
community or volunteering for our Earth Day Clean Up day.
Picking up litter is a HUGE contribution to keeping our
community beautiful.

Clean Up Day Coordinator Needed
Reminder from the
Architectural Committee
Earth Day is April 22nd. A coordinator is
needed to host the NCA Clean Up Day that is
always planned around this event. Coordinator
would prepare flyers, sandwich boards, hand
out trash bags, water and assignment areas.
This is an important event as can be seen by
the amount of trash sitting in the woods
around our homes. Help make Newington
Station beautiful, volunteer!
Exterior inspections by the Architectural
Control Committee will begin soon. Please
become familiar with the Architectural
Standards, found on the NCA website, to
ensure compliance. They look for signs of
peeling, chipping paint, cracked sidewalks,
yards in need of attention, rotted/broken/
leaning fences and siding and gutters that
need cleaning. The committee will inspect
the entire community, but If there is an area
that you feel needs more immediate
attention, please contact the community
office at 703-455-3606 or email:
[email protected].

President’s Corner
Continued from page 1
With good weather just around the
corner more people will be outside both
during the day and at night. This brings
up a safety concern that you as a
community member can be of much
needed help. You will notice that on the
townhouse streets there are street lights,
however, they are not real bright. There
are no street lights on streets for the single
family houses. The Fairfax County Police
suggests that everyone keep their front
door lights on at night. This is because
well lighted streets have less crime. In
addition to the crime issue, leaving your
front door light on makes it easier for
drivers to see people walking or running
after dark. These are important safety
matters. Leaving your front door light on
does not have to be expensive if you use
either a LED or a compact florescent light
bulb. All it takes is for everyone to
remember to turn their front door lights on
every night.
I hope you will give us help in these
areas as keeping Newington Community a
safe and beautiful place to live takes the
effort of everyone of us.
Have a great Spring!
