December Newsletter
Happy Winter!
We hope this cool weather finds you and your family
warm and enjoying the season of giving and thanks.
We, here at Feickert School, are thankful for being able
to teach your children, our students, each day. To that
end, please read on to find out more about the
happenings and events and great things that are
happening at Feickert School.
Google Docs/Classroom
In curriculum and instruction news, staff were provided
the opportunity for training using the Google Docs
format for their classrooms on Thursday, November 5.
Mrs. Gail Desler, technology trainer for the Elk Grove
Unified School District, joined the Feickert Staff and
provided training on the Google Docs, Forms, and
Drives which teachers are and will be using in the
future. Ms. Desler will be re-joining the teaching team
to provide training for Google Classroom on Thursday,
Dec. 16. Students, and teachers, are utilizing software
and hardware in classrooms with the implementation of
the Chromebooks, of which Feickert School maintains
approximately 150! Each grade level is currently or will
be using these “mini laptops” to support instruction as
well as a platform for the SBAC/CASSPP California State
testing this Spring. We are excited and enthusiastic to
instruct using these technologies and will receive
additional training in the coming weeks and months.
DonorsChoose.org
Several of the Feickert Teaching Team have received
grants from the aforementioned website as well as
other grants written. To date the following teachers
have been awarded the following:
Also, we are pleased to announce that Staples
Foundation, through their “2 Million and Change”
program awarded Feickert Elementary School $3,500.00
to buy Chromebooks and a charging station, for Mrs.
Zannetti’s 5th/6th mild-moderate self-contained
classroom. As an employee, Rick Kurianowicz, (the
husband of Kathie Kurianowicz who works with Mrs.
Zannetti in the SCC program) was able to nominate this
class for the grant. We are so thankful to the Staples
Foundation for their generosity.
Kids Can
Thank you Feickert Community! Our families gave over
1,500 cans of food for families in the Elk Grove region
who are less fortunate this holiday season. Our Student
Council worked to prepare, collect, and load the cans
for the Elk Grove Food Bank. We are so thankful that
our community embraces this selfless giving to others
this holiday season. We know that families in the Elk
Grove community will benefit tremendously from your
generosity. Thank you all.
Spelling Bee
Congratulations to all of our Spelling Bee finalists and all
3rd-6th grade students who participated in this
competition. The competition was fierce. Words like,
“entertainment,” “mosaic” and
“antidisestablishmentarianism” well maybe two outta
three!

101 Dalmations
Have you seen those puppies? We sure have! The
Musical Mayhem Productions of the 101 Dalmations
took center stage on October 30th to a packed house of
over 250 family members. Student performers were
amazing. Singing, dancing, and acting their way to a
fabulous rendition of a Disney classic, 101 Dalmations.
The sets, music, singing, dancing, acting, costumes, and
truly, the entire performance, was awesome. Thank
you to the actors and actresses for performing such a
great show for all of the theatre-goers. Thank you to
Anne Marie Pringle and her team at MMP for their hard
work in making another fantastic performing arts feat
for us to enjoy! Mark your calendars and look for the
flyer for the next upcoming performance, and you too
can be a STAR!!!
Royal Luncheon
King Murchison was joined by his royal students last
Friday in honor of the students’ commitment to being
Kind, Safe and Responsible. Students were chosen by
teachers and joined Mr. Murchison in the royal court
(the stage) and enjoyed lunch, conversation, and a treat
for exemplifying the three pillars of our school: Kind,
Safe, and Responsible. Mr. Murchison donned his
crown and cape for the affair, and everyone had a great
time! We will continue the Royal Luncheon throughout
the school year as one way to recognize students who
embody the school spirit of Positive Behavior!
Penny Whistle Players, Cosumnes River
College, & Ms. Bobbie Singh-Allen, EGUSD
Board Member
In our on-going commitment to Kind, Safe and
Responsible, the Penny Whistle Players, from
Sacramento City College, joined the primary-aged
students on Friday, November 13, 2015. Students were
treated to Performing Arts with a message of good
choices, anti-bully, and being a responsible student. We
thank these “big” students for helping us “little”
students.
Also, Mrs. Bobbie Singh-Allen, Elk Grove Unified School
District Board Member, visited students in grades 1-6
last week for a reading of a story focused on antibullying and friendship. During our “mini-assembly”
students sat and listened to a story followed by a
question and answer session. We thank Ms. Singh-Allen
for taking time out of her busy schedule to join us and
for her commitment to safe schools!
Safe and Slow
Each month, we dedicate space in this newsletter to
remind families to be SAFE on and near the Feickert
campus and drive SLOWLY! With over 700 students
arriving and dismissing each day at Feickert School, it is
imperative that each of us make a commitment to keep
our school safe. Although we may be “running late” it is
never OK to drive fast in or near the parking areas or
connecting streets of our school. Students are small,
they walk, run, ride bikes, scooters, and other variables
which require each of us to be very, very smart, safe,
and committed to student safety each morning and
each afternoon. Please practice patience: wake up a
little earlier, drive a little slower, look twice and three
times and understand that staff at Feickert School are
trying to keep students safe when in the crosswalk.
Thank them by waiting patiently and helping to keep
our kids safe. Thank you!
Season of Thanks and Giving
In this, the season of giving and thanks, we, the Feickert
Family, would like to take pause and wish you and your
family the warmest of holidays. We are fortunate and
hope that you, during the holiday season, are able to
take time with your family to enjoy the spirit of the
season. On behalf of the entire Feickert School family,
we wish you and your family the very best for a warm
and safe holiday season.
Sincerely,
Mr. Murchison
