8.2 Practise Assignment
PART A: Complete the double bar graph. You are helping to choose a t-‐shirt colour for your sports club and you have collected data that needs to be organized and displayed on a graph. You’d like to know the difference between girls and boys in the results. Here is the data: NAME

Now that your data is organized, you can make a double bar graph. Follow the steps carefully to create your double bar graph on the next page: 1. Choose a logical title. Put it at the top of your grid/graph. 2. Choose a scale. Look at your numbers. Should you go up by 1s, 2s, 4s, 5s, 10s? What makes logical sense? 3. Decide if you are doing a horizontal bar graph (numbers on bottom) or a vertical bar graph (numbers up side). Start with 0 in the corner and put your numbers in. Number the lines, not the spaces. Look at examples in the lesson, if needed. 4. Add your labels, as neatly as you can. Be sure to include your main labels (Number of Children & Colours) as well as the specific colours. Be sure to leave room for two bars at each colour – one for boys and one for girls. 5. Create a legend. Choose a pattern or colour for boys and a different pattern or colour for girls. 6. Draw and colour your bars. USE A RULER. Neatly trace the outside of each bar. Then fill them in based on the legend. BC Learning Network - Math 05
Check – Do you have: p A title p A legend p Numbers at equal intervals p Labels p Bars p Neatness BC Learning Network - Math 05
PART B: Complete the double bar graph. Your friends and relatives were surveyed about their favourite desserts. Put it at the top of your grid/graph. 2. Choose a scale. Look at your numbers. Should you go up by 1s, 2s, 4s, 5s, 10s? What makes logical sense? What will show the data clearly? 3. You already made one graph. Was it horizontal or vertical? Whichever you did NOT do, choose this time. Start with 0 in the corner and put your numbers in. Number the lines, not the spaces. Look at examples in the lesson, if needed. 4. Add your labels, as neatly as you can. Be sure to include your main labels (Number of People & Desserts) as well as the specific colours. Be sure to leave room for two bars at each colour – one for adults and one for children. 5. Create a legend. Choose a pattern or colour for adults and a different pattern or colour for children. 6. Draw and colour your bars. USE A RULER. Neatly trace the outside of each bar. Then fill them in based on the legend. BC Learning Network - Math 05
