NationalFederationofStateHighSchoolAssociations(NFHS)BaseballRulesCommitteeatits
June5-7meetinginIndianapolis.TheruleschangesweresubsequentlyapprovedbytheNFHS
BoardofDirectors.EachNFHSmemberstateassociationwasrequiredtodevelopitsown
pitchingrestrictionpolicy,basedonthenumberofpitchesthrownduringagame,toafford
pitchersarequiredrestperiodbetweenpitchingappearances.
Asyoumaybeaware,attheNCHSAABoardofDirectorsWinter2016Meeting,theBoard
passedpitchcountregulationseffectiveforthe2017season.

Therequiredrestperiodsarebasedonthefollowingpitchwindows:
*Ifapitcherthrows76ormorepitchesinaday,four(4)calendardaysofrestarerequired
beforepitchingagain.
*Ifapitcherthrows61-75pitchesinaday,three(3)calendardaysofrestarerequiredbefore
pitchingagain.
*Ifapitcherthrows46-60pitchesinaday,two(2)calendardaysofrestarerequiredbefore
pitchingagain.
*Ifapitcherthrows31-45pitchesinaday,one(1)calendardayofrestisrequiredbefore
pitchingagain.
*Ifapitcherthrows1-30pitchesinaday,zero(0)calendardaysofrestarerequiredbefore
pitchingagain.

MaxPreps:PitchcountsmustbeenteredintoMaxPrepsnolaterthan11:00a.m.thedayafter
eachgame.Instructionsareattached.
Intheeventofasuspendedgame,theGameDayTrackingFormsmustbesenttotheNCHSAA
officeviaemail([email protected])orfax(919-240-7399).Itmustbeindicatedontheform
thatthecontestwassuspendedorpickedupfromthepointofinterruption.Thisisimportant
becausethegamewillnotappearassuspendedonMaxPrepsandthusmayormaynotlook
withintheapprovedregulations.(Example:Pitcherthrows80pitchesinasuspendedgame
rule.Four(4)dayofrestarerequired;however,thegameisnotpickedupfrompointof
interruptionuntil10dayslater.Pitchermaybeeligiblefor105pitches.Ifpitcherthrows
another80pitchesitwillappearinMaxPrepsthatthepitcherthrew160pitchesinasingle
contest.)
Violationofthepitchcountrulewillresultintheuseofanineligibleplayer,whichaccordingto
thePenaltyCodeisa$500fineandforfeitureofthecontest.Failuretorecordandkeeponfile
GameDayTrackingForms,submitsuspendedcontestGameDayTrackingForms,andentering
post-gamepitchcountinformationintoMaxPrepswillresultina$100fineforlateschool
informationorotherrequireddocuments.
