International Day 2006!
Being a Specialist Language College brings many benefits and one which Achievement we can enjoy as a whole school is Care our annual celebration of Excellence International Day. In past years we have celebrated the culture, traditions and languages of India and September Africa and this year, in July, it was China’s turn. 2006 Issue No. 4
We chose to have our celebrations on July 7th, a day when Year 9 are on their induction at Groby College. This gives us a little more space for activities and flexibility with the timetable. Each curriculum area has a chance to be adventurous and imaginative as they like with the emphasis very definitely on fun. China tea and fortune cookies in the library at break time. Staff and students together enjoyed a gala Chinese lunch beautifully prepared by the catering team. There are some wonderful photos as evidence! The China day activities included: English: bookmarks decorated in Chinese calligraphy Science: experiments to compare the efficiency of different styles of paper fan Maths: Chinese numbers and games Humanities: Chinese New Year stories and traditions Languages: a lesson in mandarin ADT: Chinese cookery and tasting, silk painting, dragon making and painting PE: tug of war, tai chi Drama: lion dancing Music: traditional music filled the corridors and classrooms A Walk on
the Wild Side,

Each year we invite our Language College sponsors, governors, friends of Brookvale as well as the mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth. Those of you who have shared this special occasion know what a wonderful celebration it is. To help the day feel really special we decorate the foyer, corridors and classrooms. Staff enter fully into the spirit of the day and wear appropriate costume wherever they can. This year we enjoyed The student evaluations show just what a great day it was, even if we could only scratch the surface of China. We shall return in Olympic year! Year 7 Football! It was our first game of the season, we won 10 – 1, and the students were a credit to the school. We suffered two injuries, brave souls who sweated blood, tears and broken bones for the cause! A big special mention and thank you to the parents who came all the way out to Castle Donnington to support, bringing spare (forgotten) kit and were so helpful administering first aid!
