People & Events of First United Methodist Church • June 14, 2017 • Vol. 32 Number 23 There are many wonderful ministries taking place at FUMC In the past two weeks our Circuit Riders Sunday School class has been preparing and delivering meals for children in Graham; our Vacation Bible School with over 160 children finished a great week; our Junior High Mission Trip took place in Palmer, Texas; and our Senior High Mission Trip will leave this coming Sunday. Ministry takes place because of the many people who hear the call of Christ and give of heart and mind. Our church family is made up of staff and laity who fulfill the call of Christ and we will be saying goodbye to one of our staff members, Laura Taylor. Laura has decided to return to school full-time to work on her Master’s Degree and will step down from her position effective July 1, 2017. Laura and Clint will still be active in church and will still be living in Graham. We appreciate the hard work and commitment that Laura has demonstrated for youth ministry the past five years and will recognize her ministry on June 25 during worship. There will be a time between the two morning worship services on June 25 to greet Laura and we will be receiving a love offering in thanks for her service. It is always a blessing to work with people who love Christ and desire to share that love in tangible forms of ministry. Thank you Laura for your service and thank you FUMC for your faithful ministry. Grace and Peace, Father’s Day We will be recognizing all of the men in our church family this coming Sunday and give thanks for their lives and witness. We appreciate the many men who share the love of Jesus Christ and mentor children of all ages. Being a father is not about biology, but about the willingness to care for others. Annual Conference Report There will be a brief report at each worship service about annual conference. We appreciate having Billy Wood, Rubyetta Cain, Louis Pitcock, III, and Tucker May representing FUMC Graham! Our Daily Bread Our church family will once again be preparing fresh meals for our neighbors this summer. Starting July 5 and continuing through August 11 we will provide a hot lunch and a sack supper for all who wish to come. Our Daily Bread was started to provide meals for children and was expanded to include anyone in our community. This important ministry is able to impact so many lives through the many workers who make it possible. Workers are needed to prepare the meals, serve, cleanup, and provide transportation. Sign-up forms are in the Atrium now. Please prayerfully consider how you can be a part of this ministry. You can give one day a week for the six weeks, help for a full week, or any combination of time. Please visit with Bronwen Choate if you have any questions or call the Stephen Ministers: The After People People often ask, “What exactly is a Stephen Minister?” One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are the After People. Stephen Ministers are there: … after the phone call you hoped you’d never get. … after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions you’ve held at bay come crashing in on you. … after the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more we can do.” … after the nursing home director shakes your hand and says, “Welcome to your new home.” … after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away - and the house suddenly seems empty. … after the gavel comes down, the handcuffs go on, and your loved one is led away. … after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you ever dreamed possible. … after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck. … after your family and friends have heard your story one too many times, but you still need to talk it out. ~ Stephen Ministers are the After People. They are ready to come alongside you - or your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives - and provide comfort and support for as long after as needed.
