JEAN RICHARDSON
Jean Richardson and her husband Bill and have been
attending Vanier Community Church since May 2011.
They found the church by changing their cell phone
where they met Dave Sherman who shared with them
about the church. He invited them to attend the
following Sunday and they did. They immediately
felt welcome and comfortable. Shortly after that, they
started attending the Biker’s Church. Today, they
attend both of the services and any other function that
the church holds. Through Vanier Community Church
and the Biker’s Church they have gained the true
meaning of being a Christian and of serving. They
decided to become official members of the church
and were both water baptized in January 2012. They
love the church as it feels like home.
Jean and Bill serve at the Café as recruiters and
trainers of Café volunteers. They make sure that it
runs smoothly on Sundays. They also serve in the
Free Store, and Jean has recently signed up to serve
on the greeting committee. Jean finds serving both
enlightening and fulfilling. These are just some of
the ways that she has chosen to serve God.
Jean is also an author of Christian poetry and she has
published two books: “Beyond Dark Shadows” and
“Christmas Inspirations”. Both of these are available
at Salem Storehouse or from herself. The books are
filled with the testament of the healing powers of
Christ; the unending love in God’s great storehouse
and with the love and acceptance we all desire that is
there all the time through Jesus. She feels that if her
poetry can help just one person understand this, then
the purpose for her writing has been accomplished.
She shares that her poem
“Beyond Dark Shadows”
will always remain the last
piece in that book because
she feels that God’s love
is so great and He wants us to
live “Beyond Dark Shadows”.
The poem “Starting Over” is
her personal testimony.
The first poems Jean wrote
were during a painful time in
her life. She felt worthless, unloved and believed that
God had deserted her. She was hurting, searching and
screaming out to God for help. She would wake up in
the middle of the night and have an urge to write.
Writing at that time in her life frightened her because
within 48 hours someone would come to her needing
those exact words or theme. At the time, Jean had our
own business Motivational Creations. This was custom
Christian poetry placed on plaques and scrolls written
for people based on specific information they would
give her. During its five years in operation,
Motivational Creations was located in several areas
of the city. In time, Jean realized that these
inspirational poems needed to be published in a book.
In November of 2011, she reprinted the first book to
add new poetry that she had written more recently. It
was also important to her to add the scripture that had
influenced each poem. Her newer poetry is full of
praise and thankfulness because she has come to
realize just how powerful God is and will continue to
be in her life.

What an incredible month May has been! The Bikers Church had an
amazing Info day/Swap Meet followed by a tragic turn of events… We lost
one of our original members and a huge personality in the church. M&M
(Mike) was like a father to me… and he will be greatly missed by so many.
As every situation can be turned into something positive, this tragedy
reconnected many of us in Bikers Church.
We are ever so grateful that God kept Sandy safe and that she is healing
well and is back on the bike with Peanut (Barry). The church came together
as one and showed them support, love and provided them with lots of food,
and anything else that they needed during this difficult time. We are truly
blessed…
In May, Rob announced a couple changes to VCC. City Church would no
longer be called that, but instead would take on the Vanier Community
Church name, while Bikers Church would remain an expression of Vanier
Community Church. How exciting! The Sunday service is always packed,
even with the walls that were torn down. And Thursday nights are growing
as well. It’s truly amazing to see what God is doing in Vanier and in our
church.
June is also promising… I am hoping to have a bake sale in order to raise
funds for Scott and Melissa Williams (http://go.kingscastle.ca) who are
currently in El Salvador completing God’s work and saving children and
youth from a life of gang participation. We will also be doing our first
official Ladies Run as VCC. All levels of riders are welcome! So enjoy this
last month before school ends and the summer break chaos begins! At least
that best describes summer break in my house! Make sure to check the
website often, and God bless all of you!

This is the banana bread for you! I’d described the bread as “having it all: rich fudginess,
moist texture, and good banana flavor.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 1/4 cups mashed bananas (about 3)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa (I prefer dutch process)
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
1. Heat oven to 350. Spray bottom of 8!4 inch
loaf pan with cooking spray.
2. Beat sugar, eggs, and oil in large bowl at
medium speed until combined. Beat in banana
and vanilla at low speed. Combine flour, cocoa,
baking soda and salt in a medium bowl; beat into
banana mixture at low speed just until combined.
Stir in chocolate chips.
3 Spoon batter into pan. Bake 60-70 minutes or
until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pan; cool
completely on wire rack.
