Appearance, properties
Calcium carbide (CAMIX) is a solid mixture, the main component is calcium carbide. There are present in a small
amount calcium oxide, aluminium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium-magnesiumaluminium silicates, free carbon,
ferrosilicon, aluminium carbide, aluminium nitride, phosphide and sulphide of calcium. The formula of the main
component is CaC2.
Calcium carbide (CAMIX) is a solid substance in the form of a mixture which contains the pieces of calcium carbide of
irregular shapes and a briquettes carbide of regular shapes. Calcium carbide mixed is violet-black color, it has garlic
smell after acethylene, it is strong hygroscopic compound. It quickly reacts with water, resp. with air humidity and
releases extremely inflammable gaseous acetylene. The acetylene is explosive upon contact but also without contact
with air.

Using
Calcium carbide (CAMIX) is used as a raw material or intermediate for production of acetylene and production of
calcium cyanamide, in metallurgy for desulphurization hot metals.
Storage and packaging
Calcium carbide (CABRIX) is packed into the sheet-metal barrels of 200 kg, 100 kg a 50 kg net weight, PE bags of 10 kg
and 5 kg net weight, with next packaging to metal barrels, Iron containers from 1 000 kg till 1 800 kg net weight or
according to the customer requirements.
Packages are attested in an authorized nation laboratory. Barrels as well as containers have to be tightly closed. The
barrels are equipped with a removable lid with a rubber gasket. Barrels can be dispatched only in covered railway
carriages and the cars covered by a pack-sheet! A container’s neck is equipped with a mechanic cap, which assures
gas-tightness of the container. The containers can be transported in uncovered transportation railway means.
The barrels have to be stored only in dry, roofed area with covered sides. Containers can be stored also in free areas.
The period of storage is 6 months since the day expedition.
