Please help restore our organ by sponsoring a pipe
Our pipes range from huge wooden monsters over 16 feet in length to tiny
metal tubes which fit easily into a matchbox. Each pipe has its own note and
distinctive voice. Nearly all of the pipes are of excellent quality and will be
retained. Nevertheless, every pipe must be removed, cleaned, repaired as
necessary and retuned. All the ranks of pipes will be repositioned so that
they ‘speak’ clearly into the body of the church: in former times they were
placed to support the choir, rather than the congregation. In addition, more
ranks will be added to provide more versatility and performance
opportunities.
The Rebuilt organ
will comprise
1986 pipes
Nearly 1800 pipes will be retained from the original organ. Each of these
pipes must be individually cleaned, tested, repaired if required and
retuned. The cost of restoration of pipes varies according to the size, type
and condition of each pipe. To simplify matters we have worked out an
average cost for each rank based on the length of the longest pipe. The
length shown below is the approximate length (in feet) of the longest pipe
(note C). Sponsors may choose to sponsor an individual pipe or even a
whole rank of pipes, corresponding to a stop. Whatever you choose, we
would be very grateful. With your help, the restored organ will enhance and
support the music here for many years to come.
