Activities
1. http://www.everythingesl.net/downloads/pledge_allegiance.pdf This activity looks at the meaning of
the words in the pledge allegiance. A possible alteration of this activity would be for students to come
up with different words or illustrations for pledge, allegiance, Republic, Nation, indivisible, liberty, and
justice before completing the activity. See attached worksheet for the alternate activity.
*Another alternative includes posting a large copy of the traditional Pledge on the board and
underlining the words pledge, allegiance, Republic, Nation, indivisible, liberty, and justice. Then pass out
note cards that have the alternative phrases on them and have students decide which note card means
the same thing as the original words.
