Biographies of Nominees for 2016 Board Andrea Burroughs Raised in England I was exposed to horses and riding at a young age. Returning to the US as a teen, I rode with Sunny Stevens for many years competing in equitation, hunter, and jumper divisions. I joined the GHJA in the seventies, competed nationally and was a top 10 rider in Georgia qualifying for the Maclay finals. My riding career continued through college, where I received a degree in Equestrian studies and then returning to Europe where I rode and trained with the Swiss Olympic Team. After showing throughout Europe I decided to return to the US to teach, ride and train as a professional. Starting in the NE, for several years I was a trainer working with some of the best of our sport. I returned South working in the business operating facilities large and small, breeding horses and developing programs for successful horses and riders. I hosted local horse shows and became involved in the show community, starting college riding teams and helping raise the quality of our sport. Lately, I have had the pleasure of developing large equestrian facilities, and operating my own farm in Powder Springs where I board and train those interested in learning form my experiences and who want the very best. I am a lifetime member of the GHJA where I continue to bring my students and horses to shows. I became a certified USHJA trainer in the last couple of years, continuing my education and qualifications, because I love what I do and can't stop the learning! Debby Bandy Debby is a life member of GHJA. Debby currently serves as Chairman of the Stewards Committee and has been a steward for GHJA since 1990. Debby has been a member of the Board, including terms served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer. Debby has also participated in the following committees: Rules, Show Standards, Hearing, and Finals. Debby is a current board member and has headed the Stewards Committee and served on the finals committee as well. Roger Brown Roger was born and raised in the Atlanta horse community and has been a GHJA member since it’s inception. He is a long time USEF member. Roger and his students have competed at all levels throughout the years and have trained many riders to national and local high point awards. Roger has sent many riders on to excel at the college level, including his daughter Brittany Denton. Roger has managed GHJA sanctioned horse shows for 30+ years 202 S. Main St., Suite 200, Alpharetta GA 30009 www.ghja.org 2016 General Membership Meeting Notice Page 4 of 8 and currently manages shows throughout the year for The Brownwood Farm series. Roger is also involved with raising and showing champion dogs at the national and international level with his partner Jerry Cerasini at Brownwood Farm in Alpharetta. Roger is a current board member, serving for the past three years. Amanda Garner Thank you for your consideration of me as a candidate for a GHJA board member position. As my resume below shows, I am a passionate supporter of young equestrians nationwide. If the GHJA chooses to elect me to the position, I would use my knowledge and connections with other equestrian organizations for the benefit of GHJA members. Amanda Garner has been a licensed local GHJA steward since 2010. She is also a local judge, having officiated at numerous GHJA shows. As the owner/trainer of Epiphany Farm, LLC in Dahlonega, GA, she brings students and young horses to GHJA shows regularly. Amanda is also the head coach of the Univ. of N. GA IHSA Equestrian Team, coaching riders to numerous regional and zone awards. She has had several riders qualify for the IHSA national finals. She is also actively involved in the IEA as a steward since 2006, IEA national finals staff member since 2010, and secretary of the IEA Board of Directors since 2014. She is currently the chair of the National IEA Education Committee, tasked with providing educational opportunities to IEA riders including creating a national IEA youth board and heading up organization of the upcoming USHJA/IEA joint clinic series. When she’s not horsing around, Amanda is also a published author and blogger, having recently authored “A Parent’s Guide to the IEA”. Her blogs can be found at Amandagarner.blogspot.com and her published periodical articles can be found in equine publications both online and in print nationwide. Karen Hood Karen has been an active member of GHJA for 12+ years and served on the GHJA Board for the past 3 years. She was Vice President of the Board as well as serving on various committees the past few years. Karen is a resident of Dawsonville and has lived in Georgia for 35 years. Karen serves as Partner of Robert Hood and Son. Karen has strong organizational skills and is very task oriented. She would serve as a strong leader on any of the various committees that support the GHJA. Katherine Paul Katherine has been active in the local equestrian community since 1969 when she moved to Atlanta from Chicago and rode with Red Frazier at Rockridge Stables. She graduated from veterinary school in 1979 and in 1980 began working in Dr. Sam Horner’s equine practice. During that time she continued to ride and show and was the horse show veterinarian at many of the rated shows in the area. Although no longer in private practice, Katherine is an avid horsewoman and shows throughout the year at GHJA and USEF horse shows with her two horses. She has served on the board the past three years serving on many committees including the Show Standards committee. 202 S. Main St., Suite 200, Alpharetta GA 30009 www.ghja.org 2016 General Membership Meeting Notice Doug Prusso Page 5 of 8 Doug Prusso is a Labor Relations and Industrial Management graduate of Penn State University. Doug and his wife, Sharon Enteen-Prusso, have two children, Evan and Katy, who both ride and show. Doug and Sharon own and operate Falcon Ridge Stables in Woodstock, Georgia housing 80+ show horses. Doug and Sharon own horses that reside in the US and Europe. Doug and Sharon make frequent trip to Europe to shop for horses. Doug rides all prospects on these trips to determine suitability. For everyone at Falcon Ridge, as well as many other barns, Doug is the “go to” guy for all types of problem solving. Doug is always available to help when something needs to be fixed. Doug’s years of experience as a General Contractor make him ideally suited to manage large operations. Doug also manages the four GHJA sanctioned locals shows Falcon Ridge Stables hosts each year. Doug has served on the board the past three years, including the head of show standards committee. Jeanne Shaw Thank you for considering me for the GHJA Board. This is an honor and I welcome the opportunity to contribute more to our organization than merely my membership and appearing at our horse shows. I have been riding hunter seat almost 50 years, being taught by a retired Cavalry sergeant and ending my pre-college career riding with Sue Ashe. I was an extremely active fox hunter and Pony Clubber, ascending to the B rating level at age 14. After ponies, I competed almost exclusively at AHSA A shows and qualified for NC, SC, MTHJA & GHJA state medal finals. I began teaching lessons in 1982 and have belonged to GHJA for over 20 years. I teach all levels from walk trot to the Big Eqs. I am fortunate to be where I am, doing what inspires me, and would be thrilled to be involved with GHJA from a new angle as well. You have given me a lot, and I want to give back to you. 202 S. Main St., Suite 200, Alpharetta GA 30009 www.ghja.org
