2.
If you want a really
great pet, you might
like hamsters, gerbils,
or mice. These small
animals make good
pets and will not take
up too much space
in your house.
4.
Hamsters, gerbils, and
mice are rodents. A
rodent is a small furry
animal with large
front teeth used for
eating. They are clean
and friendly pets.
6.
These frisky little
animals need a clean
cage with room to
exercise. If the cage
has a wheel, then the
pets can run as much
as they want.
8.
Hamsters, gerbils, and
mice also like to roll
around outside the
cage in a see-through
plastic ball. Keep
your animals healthy
with action toys.
10.
The cage needs to be
away from drafts. The
cage should be kept
out of bright light.
Place wood chips on
the bottom of the cage
for chewing and
hiding.
12.
Once in a while, feed
your pets treats like
lettuce and carrots.
Most of the time you
should use special food
made for hamsters,
gerbils, and mice.
14.
These pets like to sleep
during the day. Play
with your pets mostly
in the early morning
or evening.
16.
Hamsters, gerbils, and
mice are mammals,
which give birth to
live babies. They will
have large litters of up
to eight babies.
18.
The babies will need
to stay with their
mothers for less than a
month. Then the
babies can move to
another cage where
they can eat, play, and
grow up to be healthy,
happy adults.
20.
Before you get a
hamster, gerbil, or
mouse, think about
where the cage will be
in your house. Caring
for and playing with
your pet can be a lot
of fun.
