We invite parents and family Geoff White, AP members to come in on March 3rd to read to a class. If you would like to volunteer, please return the form to your teacher, and we will contact you with a set time. We also will be hosting The Spring Family Book Fair and Curriculum Night on March 8th. Events like the book fair help to get children excited about reading and since March is reading month, it is a great event to kick-off the month. We are having our first Student vs. Faculty Basketball Game on March 16 from 6-7:30 at Caroline Middle School. We are excited to have fun with our 5th graders along with raising money for the American Heart Association. LCES teachers continue to use the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports model. This research based model has proven to improve school culture, citizenship and the level of responsibility in students. Additionally, PBIS reduces the need to remove students from the instructional setting for poor behavior. Teachers will continue to use Student Conduct forms to communicate with you regarding your child’s behavior. Kindergarten registration begins on April 3-May 5 from 10 am- 2 pm, please remind your neighbors to get their child registered for Kindergarten. On March 3, 2017, Lewis and Clark will be celebrating Read Across America Day! This is a special day to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday and all of his wonderful books. We are asking students to dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character to help celebrate his birthday and the joys of reading. Thank you to the parents who are volunteering to read in different classrooms on March 3rd. We look forward to seeing the students dressed up! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! 5. 6. 7. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before every test. Provide a light, healthy breakfast on test day. Have your child dress comfortably and arrive at school on time. Send you child off to school with confidence building words of praise and support: You’ll do great! Believe in yourself! I love you! Suggest that your child breathe deeply to relax before and during the test. Remind your child to read directions carefully and look at all the answers before choosing one. Tell your child to check his or her answers before turning in the test. Please do not schedule trips, dental or medical appointments, or early pickups during testing days. That is the evening of the Caroline Co. school-wide art show at Helping Your Child Do Well On Tests the high school, 5 –8 pm. FROM THE PTA DESK Thanks to all who attended the Masquerade Ball. It was a hit, as we had record numbers of attendees and volunteers!!! Thanks to the special events and concessions committee for all their hard work. We also want to send a big thank you to the Hospitality committee for providing dinner to the teachers during parent teacher conferences. PTA is looking forward to the following events in March, so please mark your calendars! SPRING BOOK FAIR March 3-9, 2017 Schedule will be published soon. FREE Family dinner for during Family Night on March 8th. VOLUNTEERS WILL BE NEEDED!! VENDOR BINGO will be on March 17 from 6 pm Doors open at 5 pm. Vendors are needed and forms have been sent home. If you need a form please contact [email protected]. BOUNCE PARTY March 31, 2017 from 6 -8 pm concessions opens at 5:30 PM. This will be a bounce until you drop FAMILY event. All participants 4 and older will be charge a $5 bounce fee. Parents are FREE! OTIS TREAT FRIDAYS March 9th and 24th $1 per bag. NEW TO OUR SCHOOL!!!! GRIZZLY FUN RUN This will be a SCHOOL-WIDE fun run held on April 27 starting at 1 pm and will be run through Boosterthon. Run times: 1:00 for PreK-2nd grade and 2:15 for 3-5th grade. SCHOOLKIDZ SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS For your convenience we will be offering ready-made school supply kits ready and waiting for your child on the first day of school with everything they need for the school year. Orders must be placed by June 9th so it can be there on time. Order forms will be available once finalized. From the P.E. Department The LCES PE Department has once again teamed up with the American Heart Association to host our annual Jump Rope for Heart event and fundraiser! In class, students are learning about how to take care of their heart, while also raising money to support heart health and research! Our school goal is $6000. Students have been asked to join our team online and take the “Zoo Crew E-Card Challenge” by e-mailing 10 family members or friends about Jump Rope for Heart to earn their lanyard, badge, and other prizes. The class in each grade level with the highest online participation will receive a bounce house party on the day of Grizzly Games, April 5. Visit www.heart.org/jump to sign up! Please join us on March 16 at 6:00 PM in the Caroline Middle School gym for our very first Student vs. Faculty basketball game! Fifth grade students will take on the teachers in a fierce match up. The LCES dance team and the CMS step team will perform at half time. The cost of admission is $2 for adults, $1 for kids, and FREE for any student wearing their Jump Rope for Heart lanyard with Rory the lion attached. All proceeds to go towards our American Heart Association donations. Fun for the whole family to enjoy!
