Read the story. Then answer the questions. Not only is Molly the prettiest dog that ever lived, she’s the smartest. I am not talking through my hat. My dog is a genius. We live in an apartment building, so we can’t simply let Molly out into the backyard to do her business. No, we need to put on her leash and take her to a nearby park. Molly understands. To inform us that she needs to go out, she’ll whack the bells dangling from our doorknob. Smart to have learned this, right? But yesterday, she outdid herself. We were eating when Molly trotted over, bringing a sock as a gift. (She’s well brought up, you see.) Then she barked. Was it a “play with me” bark? An “I’m thirsty” bark? Who knows? They all sound pretty much alike. When she barked again, I decided to get to the bottom of the matter. “Molly, if you need to go out, go whack the bells. Stop barking.” Giving me a dismissive look she generally reserves for a cat toy, she padded out of the room and gave those bells a thumping they’ll never forget. So, what do you think? Amazing, right? 1. What does it mean when the writer says he is not talking through his hat? _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 2. Why do you think Molly gave her owner a dismissive look? ______________________ 3 3 BrainTeaser Climb the word ladder to change give to take. Change only one letter at a time.
