Peaches – please send a runner to the foods room during AG.

Recycling Day – please empty your cans, bottles, and juice boxes into the large hallway bins. Sorting will
be done tomorrow.

Big News for the Terry Fox Run – The student who raises the most donations will receive an IPad mini,
donated by Best Buy. The AG with the most donations will receive a pizza lunch. If the school raised $750
(only a loonie each). Mr. Kochanuk will dye his hair…..IT GETS BETTER….if the school raises $1500 (a
toonie each), Mr. Kochanuk will get his head shaved! Take up the challenge Highland; let’s raise some
money for a great cause. Students, please be sure to put your name on the top of the donation cards.


Yearbook Cover Contest – this year’s yearbook theme is “Be Out of the Box”. All designers,
conceptualizers and artists are invited to design this year’s cover. Get your proposal to Ms. Colborne by
October 2. The winning design will win a free yearbook!

Cross Country Runners – the meet in Powell River on Thursday has been cancelled. Our first meet will be
next Tuesday at Vanier.

Sport Leaders – students from all grades are wanted. You just need a positive attitude and a few ideas.
Meet Mr. McKillican in the fitness room on Wednesday during lunch.

Field Hockey Players – practice today at 3:30pm, on the Vanier turf.

Model UN – important meeting today during lunch in room #225.

Senior Boys Soccer – practice after school today, 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

Comox Valley Fall Invitational Golf Tournament – October 7, sign up with Mr. Bakker.

Improv – junior and senior improv practices are during lunch on Thursday this month.

Pre-season Basketball Training – boys in grades 9-12 interested in getting ready for the upcoming
basketball season, come out to the Highland gym on Tuesday and Thursday nights, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
WORK EXPERIENCE

A food safe course is being held on Friday, November 6, 9:00am to 3:30pm. This is on a first come first
serve basis. The cost is $30. Cheques made payable to SD#71. Sign up and bring cheques to the WEX
office.

St. Joe’s Hospital is accepting applications for Youth Volunteers (new and returning). Applications are in
the WEX office. Deadline is September 28.

The semester long fire fighters program will start again in October. There is an interest list in the Work
Experience office.

Interested in getting certified in first aid and volunteering with St. John Ambulance? More information in
the WEX office.

Students interested in working on the local election campaign and would the opportunity to learn about the
Green Party, please go to the WEX office for information.
